Hey everyone, I'm hoping that some techies here will be able to steer me in the right direction.

I'd like to be able to stream audio/video to my TV (downstairs) from my Mac (upstairs) via wifi. I was planning to go with Apple TV, but then I found out it doesn't support divx.

So, is there any solution (small, affordable) that I can hook up downstairs, and stream my media from a network share? Thanks

I have an xbox, not 360. And if I could get it to play divx, even if I have to buy the wireless network adapter or whatever, that's awesome!

Yup, all you guys need to do is get your xbox's modded, which should not be expensive at all these days.

XBMC is just an app that runs off your xbox making it a media centre. Honestly, I purchased my xbox for this reason only and not to play games......and its been the single greatest thing I've ever purchased, and I stand by it :)

I would never sell it as I stream my entire movie/tv show/mp3/music video collection off my home network to my big tv in the basement.

You can get a software mod or a hardware mod. Software will be MUCH cheaper. Here is one mod place that a lot of people go to:

http://mad-mods.com/

But they only seem to have the hardware mod available for $60. You can probably find users on RFD who will do the software mod for a lot less.

But yeah I highly agree to get your xbox's modded. It will be the single greatest feeling you'll ever have, even better than your newborn baby :)

Ok, after the mod (Duox2 modchips)… how can I store DivX movies in it, and how can I play it on my tv?

When you go to mod it, you can give them an IDE hard drive and they can take out the xbox's harddrive (8GB) and put in any size new one for you...

I have a 250 GB in mine.

You don't need to do this though. Basically I have my xbox connected to my router via an ethernet cable, and I play movies/tv shows, etc. all directly from my home PC (so i dont NEED to transfer the files to my xbox). But I could if I wanted to, say for exampl eif I was going to a friend's house. I could load up whatever movies I wanted onto my 250 GB harddrive and then just play it on their TV.

But when its at home, I just stream everything off my home network. Hope that helps.

You can basically upload files to the xbox's harddrive, by copying files via FTP. To watch the movies on your TV, its a simple matter of just running the program from your xbox's menu, and then selecting which files you want to watch.

Thanks for the info.
Can this be done with the 360?

Nothing as good as XMBC for the original is out for 360 yet. You can 'stream' using windows media player or VLC, but the computer does the processing and not the Xbox.

My only complaint is that Xbox 1 can't process HD files :(

A modded Xbox as everyone else has said, will do very well for non-HD files.
The Xbox 360 and the PS3 should have native support for Divx soon, there are also media players from networking equipment manufacturers such as D-Link, Linksys and Netgear that do the same thing.
