Evga 8800GT idle temperatures

For anyone that got the Evga 8800GT from Future Shop (the ones with the super clocked speeds), what is the temperature of your card while in idle? I just got mines yesterday and after my computer idled all night, the temperature reading in Ntune was showing 81. It seems kind of high for idle temperature. 81 would be normal for gaming but seems high since all I had running was Utorrent and Vista Screen Saver.

surprisingly, I think vista screen saver uses the Videocard a lot ! don't be alarmed!

Thanks for the response. Any ideas what the Idle temp should be if I had screensavers and everything else off? Just want to make sure my card is not overheating.

Mine idles at around 60-70 I think. Maxes out at about 91 degrees celsius under continous load for half an hour.

My refrecne 8800 GT idles at 50 stock and about 54 OC'd.


This is a great card, noticeably faster than my old 8800 GTS 320 MB.

With the Accelero S1 and a 80mm Panaflo strapped to it, I've got 38 idle with Vista Aero on, and 55 load, playing about 15 minutes of Crysis.

With all default settings, mine seems to be constantly running at 82. Playing Crysis or Call of duty 4 at high settings for 30 minutes brings the temp up to around 92. I wonder if there is an airflow issue wit the system of if these are normal temperatures for 650 MHz clock speed and 950 MHz memory. I have now changed the fan control from auto to manual so the fan spins at 40% at idle instead of the default 29%. Hopefully this will reduce the temp.

I didn't even try to overclock with the stock cooling. Right now I'm running 700/980, because I'm not willing to take the time to try to find those extra Mhz before it starts getting unstable.

What about shader clock? Odds are you can push it more, since I'm running stock at 730/1728/975 (memory above 1000 changes timings, so it's actually slower.. and there have been rumors running it at/near 1000 will cause the memory controller to crap out after a few months).
