For those who have EXPIRED Gift Cards, there is a good chance you can get the money back. All you have to do is write or phone the company's head office and simply request that they reissue new ones.

Most, if not all, companies won't tell you that it is too bad and you should have used it sooner, and if they do, then that probably isn't a company that you want to be shopping at anyways.

Now that gift cards can't expire there is less to worry about but there are still lots of people who still have cards that can expire or that have expired. Just make sure you provide them with the card # or receipt code.

Good Luck!

That's what happened to me with some Blockbusters cards.. I found them while cleaning up my desk and called a local one to check the balance.. 0 on all.. I emailed Blockbusters Canada and they sent me an address to mail them back and just got the new giftcards..

Two years ago I found a paper Chapter's gift card 5 years ago in an old purse of mine (tried looking for $100 but didn't find any money:) ). My hubby went in and was able to get the $50 on a plastic gift card. All he said was that $50 was handed over for the piece of paper and he expected that $50 dollars otherwise they were stealing money from him. He was very polite too. There was no argument.

We wanted the money on a plastic gift card so we could per order a Harry Potter book.

Gift cards expiring is crap.

You take my money and say its only good for so long. After they expire, then I want my money back.

Ive battled a few places like that, using the same argument as above. If your taking my money and I don't use the gift card, then where did my money go

Damn, seriously? I had quite a few Blockbusters gift cards too a while back. It was many years ago (2000?) but I wish I had kept them. Luckily they were redeemed for free (from a free points site I can't remember the name of).

were they promotional ones or actual gift certificates?

if they were actual ones just write an email to them.

just say something like: Please reissue me a gift certificate for $x. i was unable to use them before the expiration... it is ridiculous that they expire at all... the GC #'s are xxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxxxxxx for a total amount of $xxxxxx. etc.

and you shouldnt have a problem with them reissuing one. just make sure you point out in the first sentence that you want to be reissued GC's for x amount and just keep your letter short. no more than 7-10 sentences. be direct to the point. feel free to mention if you received them as gifts or any other details you want to ad. make sure you give the card numbers or certificate numbers and the date of expiry. sign it off with you mailing addy and contact info and wait for a response.

If it's expiring, just go to the theatre's customer service desk. I did it for 2 passes (can't remember if it was close to expiring, or expired already), and they gave me passes good for another 3 months...

I have used many expired theater passes for Famous Players. I think they know that they will replace them, so even if they see an expiry date, they just go ahead and process them.

I have 4 passes for the cineplex odeon that expire the end of January. I'll have to see if they will extend them for me.

Also I don't think the pay as you go cards for phones should have expiration dates on them either. I hate having to top them up so i don't loose money. It's my money they shouldnt be able to take it away from me if I forget. I bet they have made ALOT of money from all the people out there that do forget.
