oh Wow?
Only the FS/BB .us prices, or other retailers as well (Amazon would be particular useful sometimes)

They're not really matching, just having a "Better than US price sale" on some goods.
Doesn't look like their PM policy changed.

this is just a marketing ploy. They are reducing prices on certain items to match the US counterparts.

Your post sounds like FS/BB is announcing they are price matching US stores!! Now that would be something...
Back in reality, however, their price matching policies did not change
"matched prices must be in CAD blah blah blah..." still applies
This is just some marketing speak. I'll let the actual prices do the talking.

I bet their argument is that they buy the goods at a fixed pricing from the suppliers and they are bought months ahead. Also there is overhead as there needs to be french/english labeling.

Yep, just doing what Costco and others have been doing lately.
Bringing down the prices, to match the American price at Best Buys. No price matching with Target, etc ... unfortunately.
Plus, we still get to pay those wonderful taxes. :)

It would be nice if the price of dvd's fell into the realm of matching US prices. Then again I am a movie ***** lol.

Misleading topic. At least bother to look at their price matching policies AND compare US/Canadian prices. Only a handful of products are affected by this so-called "matching".

Q: If I look on Canadian and U.S. websites, the price tag on many products is higher in Canada. Why is that when our dollar is stronger than the U.S.?
A: At Best Buy Canada, our ability to offer lower pricing due to exchange rate depends on manufacturers?specifically, on when they reduce the pricing that they offer us. Price changes resulting from currency fluctuation are usually effected in 30 to 60 days; in most cases, the changes are instant. In the last 30 days, we've already dropped the prices on over a thousand of our products. This trend may go on if the loonie continues with its strong performance.
Q: Will you match the price of a product if it's lower at BestBuy.com?
A: Unfortunately, our lowest price guarantee applies only to prices advertised by other Canadian companies.
Q: If a similar product is priced significantly lower in the U.S. right now, why should I buy it here?
A: Best Buy is committed to giving its customers the lowest possible price, which is evident in our decision to reduce the prices on over 1000 products. Besides our competitive product pricing, however, we also provide our customers with a complete solution, which includes everything from our non-commissioned sales approach to a comprehensive array of related products through to after-purchase installation and repair services. After all, building a relationship with our customers?and earning their loyalty?are just as important to us as making a sale.
Q: Many other Canadian retailers have publicly announced their price reductions. Why haven't you?
A: We deemed it best to focus our time and efforts on working with our vendor/manufacturer/supplier partners to identify areas where we can obtain the most savings that we can in turn pass on to our customers.
Q: You said you've reduced prices, but I still see many prices in Canada much higher than the U.S. Why is this?
A: Prices are affected by various factors and considerations that are unique to each product category. For this reason, not all products have seen a drop in their prices. In the DVD movie category, we have noted a consistent retail price point for "new releases" due to a higher price in which they are sold to Canadian retailers. We are working with our vendor/manufacturer/supplier partners to address issues like this where possible.
Many other considerations in Canada's retail industry influence our pricing, including taxes, tariffs, higher labour and fuel expenses. There are also costs related to bilingualizing products and metric labeling. Additionally, because our market is much smaller than the U.S., we don't benefit in the same way from volume discount. For more information on Canadian Government imposed customs tariff, please check the Canadian Border Services website at www.cbsa.gc.ca.
Q: What are some examples where you've reduced your prices?
A: Here are some examples as of Nov. 2:
* Samsung 52" LCD TV * Before was $3,299, now is $2,799 (current sale price in Best Buy U.S.: $3,149)
* Sony 40" LCD TV - Before was $2,099, now is $1,699 (same as the U.S. price)
* Sony PS3, PS2 and PSP consoles and new release games are priced the same as in the U.S.

I think the OP should be banned - only 7 posts. I call this a FS fanboi (there are those out there, like laptop-tech who worships BB) posting misleading propaganda.

Futureshop won't even match their competitor's prices, let alone the US ones.
I just got off the phone with those knobs, and they kept putting up roadblock after roadblock to my price-match with Walmart and Zellers for video games, asking for X, requiring Y, tossing in Z... all with freely available flyers and known pricing.
Then at the end, the rep said "It will take over 72 hours and it will probably be declined". I politely told him to "STFU" and worked my way through a few managers.
Other than any potential Boxing Day deals, I'll never buy another thing from those devils.

I was told in a PM on futureshop.ca that the buying phase is 3 months, and is about to be renewed in late november. If its true, i suppose its acceptable... Though it does kinda screw X-mas shopping for a lot of people.
I still think the best example of greed here, is the Creative Zen 8gig... the OFFICIAL MSRP from creative in canada, is $200. It was released after the dollar hit par, and because of that, its cnd MSRP is inline with the us MSRP... This did not stop places like Futureshop(220) the Source(220) and Bestbuy(260) from over charging for it though. It kinda proves they have seen this high dollar as an opportunity to make some easy profit. I mean the margin of profit on MP3 players is pretty small(no where NEAR $20-$60) so this pricing issue they made, will prob triple how much money per sold unit.

Let's all not buy for them. We can tell them that we too are building a relationship. And we are giving them the cold shoulder.
Drop a few prices on some slow moving items and then tell us this story. We are not that stupid are we?
P.S. Someone at HO should tell them that the customer doesn't want to build a relationship ... just a cheaper price.
Oh by the way, they can keep their higher price goods ... I'll get it elsewhere.

Please change the thread title. This is only a fine example of a Canadian retailer asking us to bend over a little more while they.....
