So I hear this runs like utter garbage even on a core2duo rig @ 3.3ghz , 2gb of RAM, and an 8800 GTX according to the IGN (AU) review

Is it really that bad

Supposed to be a great game.
Genre defying and yada yada

But yes I do believe this game makes even the Blackbird weep.

It depends whether you are trying to run it on Vista or XP

It runs very poorly on Vista. The video drivers are not developed very well for DX 10 and have not been for a long time. It's a problem that's plagued gaming on Vista for a while now and has frustrated gamers.

It runs very decent on XP at high settings. Unfortunately, you can only get DX 9 content, which lowers the eye candy slighty (but not by much).

But this is not new guys. There have been PC games in the past that, at the time, brought even the most powerful gaming rigs to their knees (or as IGN puts it 'kicks their computers in the balls'). F.E.A.R. comes to mind. Oblivion was another. Those were games that pushed the graphics envelope, but looked awesome. And everyone bought those games, because they were wickedly fun, immersive, and above all, were memorable - even if they ran like utter crap at high settings.

firstly directx10 graphics look way better from what ive seen in online video.
second i have it running with almost everything maxed out with DX9 and its way diff than directx 10. second it runs perfectly fine on vista. though u have to have 2gbs of ram with vista. really fun game. having a blast with it.

I am playing it and it runs fine, you just need a pretty good graphics card. My system is a Q6600, 2G of ram, 8800GT and it plays fine, no problems, graphics settings all to high, and I'm on Vista Ultimate.

Agreed. You don't need a DX10 card to get 98% of the eye candy. See this link:

http://incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=11614

Also, IGN.AU had so much trouble with the game because:

a) He played in Vista
b) He played it in 1680 x 1050. Had he dropped it to 1024x768, It would have still looked awesome and played great.
c) His machine is not optimized. I've seen much better scores than that around the web--especially with medium. You need to have Vista updates and the latest Nvidia drivers. And you need to visit a forum or two to learn the best ways to get the most from your machine. It's a cutting edge game that acts like a cutting edge game.

I have a Dual-boot XP/Vista machine with an 8800 GTS and I get about 17% better FPS in XP

generally spking, stooples online doesn't participate in game sales... (for whatever reason, that's beyond me)

if you try searching/browsing, you'll find that they sell v. few PC games online.
