What happens if you'd want to hook up a 2nd tv, do they charge extra for a second terminal or what? Right now at home my parent's are using basic cable (analog) with rogers and I feel they're paying too much for it, they jacked it up by $10 a month because of the 2nd tv too. Might be time to give rogers a call!

I dunno where you got those prices but the "HD VIP" seems like a total absolute ripoff. You can get the TMN Vip package for $65.99 (which is VIP + TMN + 25 bonus channels) and add the HD bundle for $6.99 and have what seems to me like almost the exact same thing, only difference being some other mystery 40 channels you probably would never watch.

I used to have the VIP package with my HD PVR and was paying $58.99 a month for the VIP package, basically to get TSN. I said enough of this so I cut it back to Basic Cable and am paying only $27.49 now. Not missing the VIP at all. And I managed to get them to give me the HD PVR free for two years. I miss out on some HD channels like TSN and Discovery, but for $30 less a month, I'm OK with that.

I received a call from rogers a few days ago, saying I am valued customer blah blah and offered me the Basic digital for 26.99 + tax a month includes rental of box etc for the first 6 months and then its 34 after that.. I also get 3 months of the specialty ch free, not a bad deal. 1 year contract. If I decide to quit before the 6months of the one year, I pay back the savings..

I have been paying $ 55 a month for a digital vip full cable service , and thinking of just downgrade to basic analog as I find myself/family simply do not have time to watch live TV, anytime we are watch the TV is watch DVD movies.....anyone else has similar situation ? would they offer more discount to my existing to keep me in digital ?
Also, the vip package includes 4 outlets and if I downgrade would they really come and uninstall the outlets ? is it not just a splitter than I can easily connect ?

Most cases now the will not allow you to downgrade. Now even if they did you would only be saving $1.50 per month over basic digital.

Ah thanks! You wouldn't happen to know if the same applies to the Basic digital cable package would you? Really all we need is two outlets, splitter works just fine but just until they find out about it :/

I wonder if they are lowering their prices due to people cancelling their cable TV service with the current writer's strike (i hear late night shows are first to be affected, then scripted shows like Heroes, Prison Break, 24, etc). I think there might be a 30 day cancellation policy like with home phones, so if all you watch is Heroes, Prison Break, 24, Lost, etc .. then you should cancel now since the shows won't return until the writer's strike is settled. Heroes season 2 will end after episode 11 (3 more weeks), Prison Break season 3 has taken a break until Jan 14 for a few more episodes, 24 and Lost won't return until after the strike (maybe Jan 2009) since they've shot half the season but want to air the season consecutively. Reality TV shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, are not affected I don't think. One of the many articles on the writer's strike : http://www.forbes.com/opinions/2007/11/05/hollywood-writers-strike-oped-cx_smy_1105young.html
Also not long ago I received a call from Rogers offering me $10/month for the first 12 months for Rogers Home Phone. It's a good deal but i can't switch out of Bell right now until I get my enterphone problem fixed (i think their technicians are less experienced than Rogers).

I currently have the Basic Digital Cable package described as #1 in the OP.
When I bundled it with my Rogers Wireless + Rogers Yahoo Internet (Express), i was expecting to get 10% off the cableTV portion of my bill.... however I didn't!
And after a bitchy call to customer service, they refused to give me the 10% bundle discount! They claimed it was because my CableTV promotion prevents me from taking advantage of the bundle discount. Is that for real?
(However, I'm able to get 10% off the rogers wireless and rogers internet portion of my bill...)

Meh. I'm not migrating to HD until the entire channel lineup is broadcast in HD. In the meantime, I just want to get a 32" EDTV.

There is a small very small amount of people ditching there cable service with rogers.Keep in mind tmn abd the other movie service are not affected.Plus the great sports pack rogers offers that alone keeps susp.Aslo alot of people have invested $$$$ in there tvs etc so there not going to let them be.Bell on the other hand has lost a ton of subs the past monet.Back to rogers there are some packages that if you cancel and re join down the road you won't get that same great deal.As with bell vs rogers techs no one is not better then the other.

I'm not sure what reduction we are talking about. I got 12 months Digital VIP package for $49 about 6 months ago. It was an advertised regular price on the website (like regular $59 now $49!). later they increased it to $52.xx which is what I pay now. includes cable box rental.

I have the Basic Analog and been paying 31.34/month but I don't think I have 70channels, I only have channels from 2-26 and 59-66(which are useless to me). Are they ripping me off??

Oh my.... I got my rogers digital terminal today and all I can say is wtf?
this thing is the cheapest POS I ever seen in my life, there is no led display on the front for time or to see the channel you are current on.. it is really small and light feels so cheap. I asked the Tech so whats the deal with this, he said ya these ones are 100% digital.. I would rather have the older ones then this new crap man it's the Scientific Atlanta dtv e940... any one else have this one?

We just got Rogers digital 2 weeks ago and they gave us the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 1840 which has the time and channel display and seems very solid. Maybe call back to get it replaced with this model?

ive got the same one. no time or channel display but other than that no problems. it's been working fine... i'd be inclined to change it if it's proven that the hardware inside the box produces lower-resolution images or something along those lines.
the lack of a time/channel display is not a big deal.

ya i guess but it just feels way more cheaply made then the older ones..
I can buy my own and use it with rogers? I assume I can but just wondering is there some ******** fee I have to pay because I want to use my digital top set box?

I assume that the boxes need to be programmed to work with your particular account/circuit/whatever.
My advice is, if you REALLY want to get a different box and customer service won't help you out, BREAK the set-top-box you hate so much and see if they replace it with a better one ;)
