Is there a way to "trade in" a copy of Vista 32bit for Vista 64bit? Dell didn't give me the option of getting the 64bit version, AFAIK..

BTW: What's the max Vista 32bit can use?

What do you mean max xp memory is 2gb?

According to Microsoft windows xp pro has a max of 4gb?

Just the another day I installed WC3 on it to see how it runs and its extremely choppy on LOW settings. If it can't even run WC3, how can it run FPS games like Battlefield2 or Teamfortress2. Anyone know what the issue is? Is it because of Vista? Or the ****** video card?

Before you buy 4GB of RAM, CHECK YOUR NOTEBOOK SPECS! Not all chipsets support 4GB.

Why don't you just buy 2 of these at $19 each and run at DC mode? It is still cheaper than buying a set of 2 DC sticks...
http://www.cty.ca/details.asp?pid=1652

I hope the price will drop to $20 per gig soon, with no MIR.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/main.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=013360&cid=RAM.187.566

Also, I have made a mistake of buying RAMs involving a MIR. By the time I receive the MIR, the price of the RAM has dropped enough for me to buy another pair.

this deal is for notebook to run Vista at 4GB since notebook only has 2 slots
this deal doesn't apply to anyone who's fine with 2gb

Looks like CC is really not sure about the specs???????????? :P

To those suggesting to run 2x1 - some laptops (esp the ultraportables) only have 1 DIMM slot. Until the GMA965 chipset came out, the 945 also only supported 1GB DIMMs, hence there was little demand for them, too (except Macbooks and the Sony TZ, which were custom hacked by manufacturers to support 2+1GB and 2GB DIMMs, respectively).

This RAM should also work in the latest MacBook (2.2Ghz - Santa Rosa, just released) and MacBook Pros (2.2-2.6Ghz - Santa Rosa released in August), and Aluminum iMacs.

Ok well thanks, I guess Microsoft needs to change thier website then?

3.5 is pretty close to 4 anyway I guess. I just ordered a new system (the parts to build one) with 4gb of ram and would rather run xp than vista....

we'll see how much it recognizes I guess.

You'll need a 64bit operating system to be able to reference all 4 gigs of memory.

Here's my situation. my Dell 640m laptop manual says that max is 2gb. however, some people on this thread claim that I can upgrade to 4gb if I install a 64-bit version of XP or Vista. Can 64-bit operating systems be only installed on CPU's that support 64-bit?

In order for you to be able to use 4gb memory, both your hardware and operating system must support it. Your hardware doesn't. Each slot on your laptop supports a max of 1GB. The chipset is 945, right?

Are there any deals on DDR ram? My laptop is only a year old, but it takes DDR not DDR2. There's a huge price gap.
