I'll be soon traveling to the US and am thinking about picking up a xbox 360 there, and I'm just wondering do I need to pay custom for it when crossing back to canada? or are game consoles fall in one of those duty-exempted items category? has anyone done that before and were you charged?

btw I'll be returning within 24 hrs so no mandatory exemption for me :(

You will be paying taxes at customs.

Possibly duties, don't know where the 360's are made.

I had a guy yesterday with 2 PS3's. And ya, he paid.

you can easily avoid this, just tell them that you got it as a gift and you have no clue how much it worth..

And they'll "easily" look up the regular price of what your 360 or product is going for at retailers.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Gift exemptions only cover 60 bucks, you'll pay on the difference.

if it's a blatant lie, then you may have to (in advance) think of other information, like who you visited in the US, where they live, etc. YMMV depending on your luck and skillz.

Take it out of the box and scrap the box (keep whatever you need for warranty)... put it in a duffle bag as if you already own the system... and package the cords/etc like you carry it around alot...

Not too hard... just like how people travel with laptops... same thing... if you buy a laptop in the states....get a travel bag for it... and treat it like your everyday laptop you travel with.... they won't know...

You guys realize that if you want this thread not to be locked you gotta stop talking about ways to 'beat the system'.

Should be duty-free regardless of where it's made. Just have to pay GST/PST...

cwb, ebola:
Do you know if that guide is the latest version available? They're still attaching it to TDC booklets but the categories seem really dated. It doesn't list common things like DVD's or MP3 players.
