I don't think any one city's Craigslist is more or less safe than any other's. But why aren't you using the Saskatchewan version? http://saskatoon.craigslist.ca/

deal locally.
Meet in a public place.
I've had people asking me to meet in some pretty shady areas, and when i asked to meet @ a mall they said "no its to far"...
You'll also get the occasional nigerian scammer.

It is very risky as there is much more anonymity. Definitely meet in person and test everything out completely before forking over the dough. Meeting in a public place is also a must.

if you take the necessary precautions while making a deal.. ie. meeting locally (and in a public place), checking everything out before buying.. etc then you should be fine. however i'd much prefer to use RFD still.

Is it safe to meet at my home? If not, why not? Several times, I sold some stuff on ebay and they came to pick it up at the door. One time I met at Mcdonalds and another time at a mall.

do you really want everybody knowing the address to your house? cause i wouldn't.. i don't even give my home phone number out.. just my cell number. if you meet at a public place at least there are more people around, and they won't know where you live.

i bought/sold two things, and they wanted me to come to their apartment. Which was fine by me, cuz it was only like a 10 min drive.
I wouldn't deal at my own home though. Maybe apartments are a little safer cuz they have to get through two locked doors.

+1. If you're selling stuff do you want people who could potentially come back and rip you off later? Especially if they know you have $$$ from the sale (like selling a notebook or something). Unless I'm selling something huge like a Bowflex, I'd still setup the meeting to be in a public place just to be safe.
Not too worry, if you do go to the person's residence on Craigslist "Craigslist has forensic computer experts that can collect evidence and help authorities locate suspects" just in case something does happens to you as per Rehan's link.

The stuff sold and picked up at my house was not expensive. Sometimes it was $10, $30, $50. The most expensive was $200, a color laser printer. How am I going to lug a 50 lb printer to the mall? I can understand if it was expensive jewellery. Then I wouldn't invite someone unknown to my home.

I always use an anonymous email, almost never give out my cell phone number, and sometimes the buyer doesn't even know my name.

I've sold all kinds of things there. I'm safe!
I give my email address, my cell phone number and my real name - oops oh well!
I've bought several things as well. No problems.

I find the problem with Craigslist is that there is no feedback, but it's still a safe site to buy things. I personally prefer RFD but sometimes RFD doesnt have what I want  .

While Craiglist can be anonymous, with you just leaving a phone number, that is not the case with ebay. Everytime you complete a transaction, your address is given to the buyer. So whether pickup at home is an option or not, the buyer knows where you live.

I just sold my car on Craiglist. Met the guy at a spot of my choice. Made the deal. Will meet in a few days at my bank so he can deposit the cash in.
