don't teenagers make 45k at tim hortons in calgary? and they get a free ipod?
back to the story... it says she won two top employee awards, except in 30 years of service. One achievement award every 15 years is pretty horrible for a manager. I'd fire her too.

Loyalty doesn't pay. Don't expect much from your employer.
On the other hand, the manager who fires you will be fired the same way sooner or later.

theres gotta be a reason why they fired her.
Sometimes companies just raise their standards so high that they just end up firing everyone, even if they are doing pretty good.
She was a General manager? $45k doesnt seem that far off... General managers of food service places usually work pretty long and hard hours including nights and weekends.
They got a lot of work to do to make sure the location is profitable.

I always find it mildly amusing how you will summarize some basic fact about a thread and then repost it with no actual information or insight.

reading behind the lines she seems to have really sucked the last few years.
Tim Hortons wouldn't have cared about her piddling range, or even the franchise owner.

i dont think it matters if it appeared to her supers that her work wasn't cutting it the last few years. the fact of the matter is she has dedicated 30 years of hard work and excellent record. she deserves some severance.

I think the employer might be a bit ageist too (is there such a word?).
You dont see that many old people working @ fast food resturants, even at the manager level. Especially people making it a life long career.
I know that movie theatres under cineplex have a policy of firing people that have worked there over 2 years. Even supervisors.

This is the reason why I have NEVER been loyal to companies, if another one comes by and offers me more pay I move immediately.

Why are the salaries of low-end fast-food workers (and TTC bus drivers) such a fascination on this board?

I don't know about you, but I have worked for Cineplex and they have not fired me. If this have to do with the old Famous Players policy, then Cineplex have scrapped it after they took over FP. I never heard of that Cineplex policy before.

NO he's not kidding.
I was off work (slow construction) for 2 weeks and went to one of those work agencies to get a job just for the hell of it, I was bored, they got me working at these bakeries in the Highway #7 & Weston area. It was a fast-trotting, untolerable hot, heavy work. I figured I was making $12 but when I found out I was literally making $8.63 (before tax) I said "screw this" and went home.
Bank tellers earn less than $10 an hour I've heard. I heard that Tim Horton's treats its employees brutally and bullies them, part of the reason they get away with this is because most employees are recently arrived immigrants who don't know any better.

About a year ago the starting pay for bank tellers was $13.94 at the bank I worked for. I think you heard wrong.

entry level Bank tellers get paid $11.50-$13.50 depending on your exp.

I love when people bring this up. Add up the cost of living expenses in Calgary, and some $15 they might be getting paid, comes back down to equal what people get paid here.

It's not because they don't know any better, it's because they don't have a choice. They have to pay the rent & can't run to mom & dad

Yes of course, regional supervisors love to randomly visit the shops in their jurisdiction and randomly beat their employees to set an example for the rest of the slaves...

I can confirm that. They buy one of everything and taste it and then give you a lesson on how to pour coffee "properly".
