View Full Version : What is it with women and throw pillows

OK, Ive been married for just over 10 years now, and last night we had another fight, this one about throw pillows.

We have them on the bed, 5 of the damn things. To "colour coordinate" for the room. Whatever, I'm a guy I don't care. She removes them at night and puts them back in the morning, so doesn't really bother me. But they serve no purpose what so over.

We recently moved to a new house, and so she bought some pillows to match the curtains or whatever. But she has them setup so you have to move the stupid things when you sit down, plus she has the same coloured draping blanket or whatever you call it over the one end and back of the couch.

Sure it looks all nice, but they are a major pain in the ass. One thing that bugs me is wanting to sit down and there is something on your seat, whether is be papers, toys, or yes, throw pillows. If its there, I'm pushing it off.

So last night I had my hands full and went to sit down and of course these stupid pillows are on the way. I take my foot and kick them on the floor so I could sit down.

hence the fighting started.

My observation is, if it conflicts with you sitting down, it shouldn't be there.

I proved my point with the blanket, went to sit down on that spot, it all falls down, etc.

I told her I don't want these things on our couch's. I want to sit without having to move blankets or pillows.

Any other guys have tis problem with their girlfriends or wives.

And dont get me started on decorative candles you cant burn, or the fancy soaps you cant wash with, or the good towels hanging in the bathroom you cant use :D

Whatever you do, don't lose the argument. Be strong.

I don't mind decorations, but they shouldn't get in the way, especially in the way of something so frequent as sitting down.

I suggest a compromise. Either she finds a decorative solution that doesn't get in the way, or you feed the pillows into a tree chipper.

Also, if you haven't yet done your good deed for the day, ask her if she knows why they call them "throw" pillows, then toss all 5 of them at her.

Women don't use reason, therefore it's impossible to argue with them. You should know this by now c'mon.

This is the funniest (and possibly only) clip I've ever seen regarding throw cushions. The first time I saw it, I laughed so hard I fell off the couch.

Yes, this is a serious one, absolutely worth fighting tooth and nail for, lol...
I have a feeling its not about the pillows at all but shes prob p!ssed about the way you kicked them off the bed, in a rude way Prob the same way I would be if my wife knocked all my tools off the table in the garage onto the floor. Its a sign of disrespect, so she took you to task for it. Next time nicely put them on the floor, closet, whatever and it'll be fine. And make sure you DON'T put them back when youre done! She'll get the message eventually or get sick of putting them back for you.
This is just a variant of the age old "toothpaste cap" and "toilet seat" wars we've been fighting since the beginning of time. But you've been married 10yrs...why are you asking for advice from teenage gamers in a deals forum? :)

I am a woman and I don't understand throw pillows. One or two is cool, but once you have too many it just creates annoyance.

Also can't stand towels, blankets, soaps, and candles you can't use, and rooms you can't go into.

Me and my brother do the same thing with the stupid things that my mom puts on the couch. we just tossed them all over the floor all the time and now she gave up and they're in the closet. It makes no sense what so ever why they are there.

Oh Im not asking for advice, Im asking what the deal is with them.

Shes really bringing on the heat on now. Shes been giving me the silent treatment since last night and its still going. Came home and everything is all lying around, etc and the bed isnt made. Just being her.

Tonight Im being the typical man. Ive been laying on the couch, left all my supper dishes on the table, and basically just tossed the newspaper on the floor when I was done.

Shes big on revenge, pisses me off and will drag this out for days

Decorations like throw pillows are totally fine....until they start messing with the day-to-day functioning of actually USEFUL items, like couches and beds.

Stay strong, spidey. 2 throw pillows per room, and only if they're not stealing your spot.

Rather than fighting, you should point to a few designers who believe it is ridiculous to have decorations interfere with functionality:!: hee hee

Throw pillows ARE useful on the couch and living room for back support or laying down. Likewise with throws... and they both can transform the look of a room. But, I find them a PIA in the bedroom, because as you said, they are hardly every used, and I can't be bothered with throwing them on there.

Challenge your wife and get her to decorate with functionality in mind in the living room(s) but not the bedroom .. or vice versa. Maybe she just feels unappreciated, and wants to go shopping for pillows with you. :)

This really is a small deal. No need to blow up over it. Really.

My maternal grandparents actually had their living room roped-off, yup, just like a painting at the Louvre... Ugh.

Personally, I think that throw pillows are totally useless, but they seem to act almost like territory-marking that other mammals make.

Throw pillows are totally necessary. When you're watching something and you spill your drink or food, rather than get up and get a cloth and wipe up the spill, I just use the pillows :)

It's gross I know, but after a couple of days my wife gave up on them now they're in the basement.

I actually like cushions... didn't know they were called throw pillows though.

turns my couch into an all-in-one. they work as back support if you don't feel like sitting all the way back, movable/adjustable armrests, pillows for napping on the couch (which I love to do), and something to take out your aggression on.

I don't think I can take a nap on the couch without a 'throw pillow', that's just inhumane.

Fight ended Saturday night about 7. We had a big blow out late afternoon and basically anything I said she wasnt making sense to. So I said whats the use your asking like a huge child.

She finally came down and admitted everything she was doing was childish (taking down shower curtains, removing all the decorating , etc)

So everything is back to normal, well for this household anyways
