A lot of people were using them as garbage bins. At almost any plaza you will find couches, urine stained mattresses, lamps and anything other than clothes that you can think of. Take it to Goodwill instead.

I don't see those salvation army boxes anymore. Dunno why. But I see alot of other 'questionable' looking boxes. The one I go to says on the side 'Supporting Breast Cancer'. Like WTF?!

Yeah, I was looking for these donation receptacles a while back and couldn't find any... I literally had to search for them in Ottawa.

Anyway, when I finally found one it was for clothing only. There was some sort of anti-dumping by-law notice the box. I guess people were using these receptacles to dump their stuff like Frankie3s had point out. :|

Those jerseys are obsolete products. During championship matches, ie Red Sox vs Rockies, they manufactured both. Whoever wins, they sell it. The rest, they unload to Africa. Saw it on CBC some time ago.

I guess we'll be seeing lots of Colorado Rockies merchandise in those African documentaries soon.

All those boxes are scams. If you want to donate clothes, bring it to a homeless shelter or something similar to that.

Since when they disappeared? I believe the one I used to dump clothes to is still there. It is in the parking lot of a fire station.

... preferably near Pacific Mall or Woodside or Scarborough Town Centre (not looking for other organisations). Anybody see some please?

There is a Salvation Army Drop Box at the Firestation parking lot on 14th Avenue between McCowan Rd. and Markham Rd.

I've spoken with a firefighter there and they confirmed that it was a legit Salvation Army box.

Your local Kijiji or Freecycle are also good options. You can post there and I'm sure you'll have a taker come pick it up in no time.
Personally, I refuse to give anything to Goodwill, Diabetes Association, Value Village etc. They simply re-sell it to make a profit.
Local shelters are most appreciative of donations. I have a women's shelter around the corner from me and bring most of my items there.

The profit of Goodwill makes is supposed to go for charity. All the content of these drop boxes are re-sell to make a profit which is supposed to go the to the charity. Your local shelter cannot just take everything you gave them and re-use locally. They will have to re-sell it one way or the others. They won't have enough space just to keep them around.

there is a bin near my house, not a Salvation Army one, but regardless. People treated it as a dumping receptacle. You'd see like broken chairs and tables, CRT monitors, busted VCRs. Quite sad really. They might as well have excreted their feces into a bag and put it there. I mean these people are obviously thinking, "I don't want it, someone else might even if it's broken and useless!".

The bin is gone now, but people are still throwing their junk there. What's wrong with our modern society?

We take our stuff directly to the Salvation Army or Goodwill store. I buy the majority of my kids clothes at these places and Value Village. Whatever is still in good condition I donate it back.
