She's a new employee, so she does get a few special privileges :)

incorrect. vBulletin does NOTHING to the stats of the account, ONLY changes the actual handle.

Cheers.

If you look under Derek's name, it says "Administrator". Both he and Ryan are "Administrators" for this website. This means they say what people can and cannot do here on RFD.

Generally speaking, you cannot change your user name.

Honestly...what difference does it make? You've only got like 25 posts, some people do that many in a day. If you don't like your username, then just tell the mods (Derek/Ryan) to close up your current account and allow you to make a new one with the desired username you want.

You can always get those 5 guys to re-submit the feedback in your new account, or just suck it up and live with your current nick.

But yes, as someone pointed out in the forum system when a username is changed, the statistics/data are not lost

How will that help anything? The Mods will certainly NOT change the name of a convicted scammer lolz.

just go and create another account and get the people to leave you the feedback again.......

hahha ok, first ask one of the mods to delete your original account or you will be banned for having multiple accounts.

(Just noticed the thread again sorry to bump)
I registered in Dec 2003 ( I think ) and had 1k+ post count when i asked for a user name change.

I'm not sure then why when i requested my user name to be changed I was informed that i would loose everything ( Which i did) my previous user name was then changed to "Deactivated00000" (don't know the numbers) and I had to register my new name, I had 1k+ post count and a few years behind the name and it was all lost because i got a name change.

I would love to have my post count added back and my registration date put back to 2003 :)

Quite possibly (and most likely) the whole system was different back then and as a result, it was not possible change one's username without losing data.

Is it possible?? If it is, I would like to do so, from heat to Heat..uppercase H!

agree - make a fee to change user names - I am willing to spend it ...

I think minor changes to user names such as Heat's (there ya go, see how that worked?) should be allowed. Punctuation isn't drastic enough, in my opinion, to warrant concern for people changing their user names and the rest of the RFD community not knowing that Heat = heat.

I'd still know that Heat was heat was hEat was hEAt. I find the change small enough that it should be allowed and that the rest of the RFD community would not be confused in the process.

A fee charged would be a good way for RFD to bring in a bit more revenue, but like I said, I think only small minor changes such as the example in Heat's post should be allowed.

A simple enough solution IF the administrators allowed name changes would be to list your former name underneath your new name. The former name would be listed underneath for a period of ONE year, then it would be removed. i.e:

New Alias
(formerly Lame Alias)

So it solves both issues. The user gets his desired name, keeps his post counts, and keeps his user feedbacks. Also, they can't hide if he/she has a bad reputation.

Perhaps allow only 1 name change. Once you have used it up, thats it.

The user I believe called "Amber Moon" should have her former stats restored.

There are 150,000+ users. It just becomes a lot of work to deal with all the name change requests as well as the other issues that have been brought up.

Don't know if it would make sense or not but how about make a system application and we fill in the application and the "Admins" can approve them?
And ofcourse small fee would be nice ;)

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but how do I modify my username? I'm not new to the site so I didn't want to post there.

I just want to capitalize the M in my name :)

Wow old thread, Back in 2006 when i lost my post count and my join date I was bummed since it did take a while to build my name up again and going from being a active contributing member of this forum to a unknown noob with a new name. Now its been 2+ years and I'm again back to some standing within RFD as I'm known again, it would have been nice to have 4k+ post count and 5+ years under my belt then 2 years and 2k posts from the name change.

Would I do it again? Probably, only because when I joined RFD in 2003 I used a handle that my husband used as a user name on everything because I did not think I would stay within this community & some personal reasons ( Plus everyone though I was a guy ). I'm much happier as Ambermoon and chances are no one will think that I'm a man

As for requesting name changes, I do understand the Admin reasoning behind it with all the extra work it could generate especially with the popularity of this site. I would think that it would be worth their time if they imposed a fee associated with the extra work, thus allowing those who are serious about keeping their status to have a choice and keeping those who are willy nilly every week from changing their names every chance they can get and making more work for the admins that they do not need.

FYI: Part 2. Sect m. in the Forum Rules (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/announcement.php?f=79&a=12)

Only one forum account is allowed per individual person. People found to have multiple accounts who are using them in a benign manner will be given the choice of which account they would like to keep. If a user has multiple accounts in order to commit fraud or to circumvent a ban or any other RFD rule, they will have all of their accounts banned and will not be allowed back into the RFD forums ever.

Basically no, you can't change your username without re-registering. I'd suggest contacting a mod about it first; they'll ban/disable your current account and then you'll have to re-register.

Okay, thanks, I'll do that.

I have another question as well

There was a thread started in the off topic section that was recently locked, so I started a thread asking why the topic had been locked and now THAT thread has been locked. Would you have any idea why???

Unfortunately no, however, I think you can make a new account and then ask an admin if they can give you your old 2003 join date, maybe that would work.

This website is a LOT more than just a vbulletin forum. In fact, you don't even log in to vbulletin on this website (though it may seem that way).

I don't think the problem is with changing the username, it's more a problem of security. Maybe a person will try to change their name to fool people.
