These deals don't apply to the majority of us and get us excited about the deals... if you want a comprehensive US deal list, just go to slickdeals.net

...or have a separate section here for the really good US deals. With the strong Canadian dollar, interest in cross-border online shopping will grow. If Canadians are aware of the deals down there and have a guide for taking advantage of them (e.g., mailbox services in US border towns), I think it would be of benefit to the members here.

Great idea Rehan. It's also nice that most posters use the US flag when posting a deal. I'd love to see a U.S. Subforum!

Awesome idea. How long do you think it would take though before spam starts hitting that forum? My other concern would be that Canadian buyers may not be protected from forms of shady business that may happen cross-border. I enjoy shopping in the States, however I'd personally rather be checking American based deals sites, to get feedback from those whom have cashed in on deals first hand. Reviews of American hot-deals may get sketchy here.

What's more important - most US stores that ship to Canada use UPS. A good deal will quickly become a money-sucking vortex of doom when UPS hits you with a random brokerage charge. They're anywhere from 5% to 60% in my experience, with no rhyme or reason to it.
There should be a buyer beware sticky at the top of any US deals section explaining that as soon as shipping options are UPS only you should run away.

Didn't think of that, a seperate section would be great.
When I use to live down in the US, slickdeals.net was my deal site, as another poster mentioned, there would be much better feedback on the value of the deal compared to other us deals instead of comparing to canadian deals.

I live near the border (and so do a lot of people I know ), and I just want "best bang for my buck" whether north or south of the border. I posted a USA deal recently (and specified as such), and I think several RFD'ers local to me are going to take advantage of it. That's what RFD is for - sharing. Better a handful of people benefit than none; don't you think?

US forums is a good idea..make sure the right stickies are in there...like the post about how to declare your own goods, the US PO Box set up, UPS/Fedex etc. brokerage fee warnings, Duty and customs, buying a car in the US etc. Those are very insightful threads that just get lost in the forums with someone posting every other day asking about how much duty they have to pay or why they had to pay $30 brokerage fee on a $1 item etc.

No US sub-forum is needed. If you want an American deal, go to the plethora of American deal websites. If you try to please everyone, you will end up pleasing no one.

So many people don't know the basics like customs clearance fees for incoming packages, personal exemptions when crossing the border, using Canadian credit cards, etc. Some stickied guides on the topic would help, but the regular Hot Deals forum isn't really the place to put them.
If you try to please everyone, you will end up pleasing no one. That doesn't apply at all. Is RFD trying to please "everyone" by having a Parenting sub-forum? or a Home & Garden sub-forum? Of course not...most RFD'ers have no interest in those topics. But there are enough people here that do take part in those forums that it's worthwhile having them (and they help keep those topics out of the regular Off Topic forum, for those that don't want to see them). A Cross-Border Shopping sub-forum would be similar -- those who want to take advantage of the deals can do so, and those that don't will get the benefit of not seeing such deals in the main Hot Deals forum.

Exactly Rehan! As I said in the other thread about a sub-forum, it's only going to get worse with Black Friday coming and the Christmas shopping season. We definitely need some stickies as every single day people are asking the same basic questions over and over again as they have never contemplated shopping on the US side but parity has them taking the plunge...

Actually there are quite a few Black Friday websites out there, it's not too hard for people to use Google now is it? But I wouldn't mind a US subforum anyway, it could be a good place to discuss shopping, vacation ideas, politics, etc as they relate to the US.

That there are but for those who don't know what it is, when it is, directions, border crossings, etc. they are all going to be asking the same questions over and over again as has already been demonstrated...

To the OP & others who are opposed to US-Only deals, if you don't like them, don't click on them...problem soled & crisis averted.
Many of us want, like myself want the best bang for our buck, even if it means crossing the border or ordering from a US company that ships to Canada.
Myself and many other members on here are all for a US-Only Deals sub forum or sub section, I even created a thread on this 4 days ago:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=505238
Maybe we can try it out as an experiement.
I don't see what we can't have a section for US deals, we have Parenting and Food & Drink.
Although sights like slickdeals offer US based deals, I would prefer to just come here for all my deal hunting.
I read a statistic that 60% of the population in ontario live between 1-2 hours from a US border. There are also many contributing members from here who live, work or frequent the US.

It could also quite possibly attract US based adveretisers for the US forums as well.
Also a good place to discuss good places to shop near the borders or general info i.e.:
ROSS in the US is alot like winners but is way cheaper and have better stuff. I buy alot of cheap kitchen ware there but many people don't know what it is.
Bath and Body emails out alot of buy one get an item free coupons.
Premium outlets in vegas, if you goto the info booth, you can sign up for a free coupon book.
If you gamble enough in Vegas at a hotel, sign up for a members card and you can get your room comp'd on your next visit.(Some games, they don't neccessarily calculate how much you spend but how much time you spent at a table...so if you play a game..like mini pai gow where the chances of a tie is high, then your good or if your tired and want some comp drinks, best game to sit at for comp drinks is keno because you pay very little to sit there for a long time).
Tired of walking the strip in vegas? Take the bus that cost something like $10 for unlimited rides for 24 hours..buses come every few minutes.
Info like that is great and should be shared in one area.
Going to a US site targets US customers. I don't think there are any sites that look at US deals from a Canadian point of view.

Oh, another tip about going to the states to shop if you go there alot...get a US prepaid phone.
My GF and her friends all have one they bought from radio shack for like $25. with $100 worth of prepaid that lasts a whole year. First call will cost you a $1 or something then subsequent calls on the same network are all free. Long D is also cheaper from US back to Canada. I have a post somewhere about this.

...
I've posted a couple of US items that were discounted and used both the flag and 'US DEAL ONLY' in the thread title, but for some reason people like to come in to take a crap. Even worse, they are usually just drive-by postings. Makes me wonder if they post in every thread whether they are interested or not.
Neovingian, I share your sentiments.

I think there is noth wrong with posting US deals as long as it is stated clearly that it is for US only. Personally, it gives me an idea whether the Canadian price is reasonable as compared with what our neighbor pays. Also, I may go down to the States if the deal is really that good.

Seperate section (but still appear in 'recent hot deals area' with a us icon on the thread would be perfect
