Apparently DVDPlay (www.dvdplay.com) partnered with Safeway Canada to provide in-shop kiosks for DVD movie rentals. In Calgary, there seems to be quite a few locations already - check out the kiosk finder at their website.

I just rented "Transformers" and "Fantastic Four" for a total of $3.16 (tax included). They list $1.49 + tax for each rental for 24 hours with a full $1.49 for extra days.

Pretty good deal if you can return the movies before the late fees.

I don't know if it's across Canada yet. When I tried locating kiosks with Postal Codes I know in different cities, they all came up blank and suggest me go to netflix.

Great price. I remember years ago Safeway in Calgary had similar machines that did this as well, and prices were great then too (99 cents for two days to rent a VHS if I recall), only problem was that they had limited selection at each machine so new releases were hard to come by.

Zehrs in Waterloo has similar machines. The cost is $1.99 per 1-day rental.

also says on their site that the movies can be returned to any kioisk, not only the oen you got it from.

Sweet. Saw one of these in Montana for $.99/day rental. Not in Airdrie (or Beddington) yet and the local corner store is only $2.49 but hope they get more locations soon!

In Winnipeg, all Shell Gas Stations are 99cents per day for new or old releases.

I saw this at crowfoot safeway a couple weeks back and thought it was a pretty great concept.

safeway must love it too, since it keeps customers coming back into the store for returns/more rentals.

Cross posted this in freebies...

From now until Dec 2, use promo code NOV75 to get $0.75 off your rental.

Get a promo code for a free rental by going here and entering your email address: http://www.dvdplay.com/promos/ (it asks for a zip code, but 00000 worked for me)

These are actually being rolled out across all Canada stores.
