They've had puny chicken for a long time now. The last time I remember their chicken being a decent size was back before there was a big problem with chickens in Ontario. I think there was a big heatwave and it killed off a lot of the chickens being produced.
600,000 CHICKENS DIE FROM HEAT WAVE: SUDDEN SPIKE IN TEMPERATURES ROASTS
BIRDS ON FARMS IN ONTARIO, QUEBEC
July 6, 2002
The Ottawa Citizen
A1 / Front
Tony Lofaro, with files from Elaine O'Connor
The scorching heat wave last week also roasted hundreds of thousands of
chickens in Quebec and Ontario.
More than 600,000 birds at chicken-producing farms throughout the two
provinces died from exposure to soaring temperatures, a figure a national
chicken board official said is unprecedented. Quebec farmers lost more birds
-- nearly 464,000 -- compared to about 150,000 chickens lost in Ontario.
Mike Dungate, general manager of the Chicken Farmers of Canada, was quoted
as saying yesterday about the dead chickens at Quebec farms that, "It's
significant, nobody wants to lose those birds. It's more than we would like,
without a doubt. To put into perspective, on any day we have an average of
95 million chickens in barns in Canada, so this (loss) would be half of one
per cent."
The lost chickens were being produced for meat consumption, and were not
egg-producing birds.

I could have sworn it was even further back(in the late 90's perhaps).

Popeye's is also robbing us now. I bought 6 pieces of chicken on Saturday, 2 thighs and 3 drumsticks were normal size and one thigh was tiny! As this was for 3 adults, it was embarrassing who would get the tiny one (about half the size of the others).

I don't know what Popeye's you went to, I recently went to the one on Leslie and Major Mac up in Richmond Hill and the pieces they gave me were ridiculously huge. I'd never seen chicken pieces that big. I couldn't finish them entirely, there was just too much meat. The bland meat got gross after I had eaten off all the deliciously coated skin :)

I haven't been to Kentucky Fried Chicken for over a year now. I live about a 1/2 a block down from the restaurant and it smells really good, but too much grease for me.
Once in a while I'd get chicken that was cooked properly and not greasy, but rarely - and I only like the breast meat.
Try Southern Fried Chicken from Loblaws or The Superstore or Valu-Mart - it's really good.

I just bought KFC a couple of nights ago for my wife and son. It's definitely not much of a value anymore...$18.00, and I get 3 chicken breasts, 3 strips of chicken, a fries and gravy. If it weren't for the fact that I was so hungry, I would have probably stepped back and considered other meal options (I haven't had KFC since 2004). And yes, those chicken breasts were PUNY. You wouldn't mistake them for popcorn chicken, but they don't look too much bigger than a baby chicken. I seriously hope that's not what I'm eating. I remember KFC chicken used to be comprised of much larger pieces when I was a kid.

I could have bought a whole roasted chicken + a medium box of taters + 2 salads from Loblaws for $12.00. Probably would have been healthier too.

I think it also depends on the place and how busy they are.

Seriously, KFC chicken is puny. I need to eat like... ~6 pieces to fill up on it, whereas 2 or 3 pieces of Popeyes will fill me. Part of the problem is also that KFC insists on taking what Popeyes regards as one breast, and splitting it into two pieces, the breast and the rib (Mary Browns does this too). Look at the size of a Popeyes breast, it almost brings happy tears to my eyes.

I always wondered why KFC here had a significantly different menu than the one in the States... IIRC, they don't even have fries there (they have wedges and Biscuits instead), have much more unique menu items and their chickens are much bigger (it's the USA after all, everything is bigger). They don't really do extra crispy here anymore either...

Typically, I shop around, but overall I find myself enjoying Popeyes moreso than I do KFC.

If you think that halal is unnoticeable, you seen enough of it. Try more places, and you'll see that the beef (especially), lamb and chicken isn't as good. The beef is not marbled like regular beef is, the lamb has the same problem, and the chicken often has blood near the bone. Popeyes doesn't, and neither does KFC, but a lot of the smaller joints have this issue.

BTW, you shouldn't group Muslim and Arabic people in the same group. There are plenty of Muslims that are not Arabic, and plenty of Arabic people that aren't Muslim.

Here chicken's muscle is all loose and more fat.
HK/Taiwan chicken's muscle is tighter.

I had toonie tuesday last night. I dunno how ppl can finish 6 pieces coz I had 3 pieces and I already felt like throwing up coz the amount of grease. I can see the watermelon part coz the apple I had after helped me recover and I could probably eat a couple pieces more lol.

rofl. id would also prefer organic chicken. i want to relish the fact that the chicken i ate had a good life, enjoyed the best food. id rather not eat a juiced up depressed chicken.

it's all about the taste, after you eat the crispy delicious skin you are left with weird tasting chicken that reeks of hormones.

ive been eating KFC since i was 10 from the same place for 10 years now and ive noticed the chicken meat go from good to bad. dont know if it's because of the switch over from the lard. but damn lard is good. how much of a difference is veggy oil going to make? KFC in the states is always huge, I go to states(kentucky) a lot, and always have KFC there, it is good to get large pieces of chicken and not get ripped off...

If you try outside of Toronto (like Elginmills/yonge, and more locations in the north), you will notice the KFC tends to be less oily and somewhat bigger.

Popeyes in Yonge/Elginmills is also huge.

Places in Toronto for KFC/Popeyes chicken are smaller.

Used to like KFC, then Popeyes, and now I am on to A&W!

I think the last time I was @ KFC was a few yrs ago, when they have that BBQ rib thing. My dad wanted to try after seeing the commercial even we know it is going to be a rip off. Well, you guessed, it is a major rib off w/ that mini piece of 'rib' for $7.xx...

Popeyes still pretty good, but seriously, the number of options really confuse the hell out of me. You can never figure out which combo or manager specials has the best value. And one time I ordered an apple pie (since someone told me they were much better than McDonalds), well guess what, I got a Spicy Apple Pie. I guess the guy must be deep frying the apple pie in the same batch of oil as spicy chicken.

A&W, since no one really order them that often. Everytime we went there, they will fry a fresh batch for us (usually we need to wait for like 15 minutes) But it is totally worth the wait, cuz you know they are freshly made. Plus very often the mgr will even offer us a free drink while we are waiting... Oh and the sauce, yummm...

Because its SOOO much better then anywhere else in the world. Mcdonals HK = #1. Worth a visit.

I liked KFC in Hong Kong too.
They had the rice in the white sauce special or you can have your chicken with wedgies. Their menu was completely different than North american KFC's too. other than the original recipe, i don't recognize any of their other stuff.

i remember KFC had these spicy wings that were pretty good too.

And KFC Hong kong seems to be more environmentally-friendly than KFC Canada. They know how to reduce, reuse and recycle in Hong Kong. Canadian KFC always uses those disposable boxes even if you're eating "for here and not to go".
