Holy crap...that's ridiculously cheap! Here's the media info:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediasearch=ridata&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&type=3&size=8.5&dvdburnspeed=All&order=Name&hits=50&search=Search+or+List+Media
It's probably the D01 variant since that has the most feedback by far. Reviews are not very good to say the least.

Yep.
hmm..$30 USD for 50 pack of Dual Layers..sounds very tempting..considering they work just fine with 360

Very tempting price. Although probably not much better than Memorexes, these are around the price of single layers, so they can very much be used as temporary dual layer storage if you please. I'm happy with my Verbatims so I'll stay away for now, but great deal for those that don't mind risking losing data within the first 6-12 months of burning.

it's either Double Layer or Dual Layer...
double sided???
anyway, if it's DL discs, this is pretty hot, even for crappy quality discs... good for temp. storage.

Are these double sided AND dual layer?!?
I have a DVD that is like that, but I didn't think they made recordable media in that format.
Here is something I saw about recordable DVD sizes...
==============
Double Layer (sometimes called Dual Layer) and Double-Sided DVDs each hold more than the standard 4.7GB of a single-sided single layer DVD. Many new DVD Burners for computers burn Double-Sided and Double (or Dual) Layer DVDs. Learn more about the different DVD sizes below.
A. There are four different DVD sizes:
DVD-5 holds 4.7GB and is supported by the DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW formats. It is also known as Single-Sided Single Layer.
DVD-10 holds 8.75GB and is supported by the DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW formats. It is also known as Double-Sided Single Layer.
DVD-9 holds 8.5GB and is supported by the DVD+R and DVD-R formats. It is also known as Single-Sided Double Layer (sometimes called Dual Layer). The official names are DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL
DVD-18 holds 15.9GB and is supported by the DVD+R format. It is also known as Double-Sided Double Layer (or Double-Sided Dual Layer).
==============
So could these be DVD-18 discs?

Don't think so. They do specify the size as 8.5GB. I guess they could be DVD-10.

We all know it is a misprint. Either Double sided or Dual layer. I will lean toward Dual Layer because if it were Double sided, then it would have been 9.4GB (4.7GB + 4.7GB) or 8.75GB for some discs.
http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/15415/double-sided-dvdr/
But, the regular price of these discs is less than a dollar each which makes it more like Double sided discs.....I don't know, better call to find out.

Just to clear things up, I think "double sided" refers to the shiny surface is on both sides. It says "DVD+RDL" so that specifically tells us its dual layer not double sided.

just a warning. Consider these discs volatile. 100% garantee in 1 year or more, your discs will contain read errors or just mysteriously have all data gone on the discs. They work fine for short term but like I said, dont use these for storing anything. 360 games, family photos, dvds, whatever. These WILL become coasters over time.

What's with all the Ritek/Ridata bashing? I've been using them exclusively for the past 4-5 years without any problems. I still continue to search for them when available over other media.
Have I just been lucky? Yes I do have some discs that I know I burned 4-5 years ago and still work fine today. No DL discs though.

Chill, it's not Ritek bashing. Their DL discs are just known to be poor quality. They made some decent cdrs back in the day and some decent sl dvd+r's currently, but thread isn't about either one.
I have hundreds of Ritek CDRs that were burnt 9-10 years ago and still work fine incase you wanted to know.

DL disks are much more volatile towards degrading than single layer ones, because the technology required is much more advanced.

Because everyone wants to be a media expert by repeating what they've read. It happens here in practically every thread involving blank media.

maybe so, But I personally have over 1000 burns with ritek (single layered) and across 4 burners under my belt and I would not recommend these discs at all. If you dont want to listen to me, then dont. Your not burning these discs for me.

It looks like it was a mistake, they have now updated both product pages and it shows they are actually double sided discs - 9.4 GB and not Dual Layered discs.
I don't think they had such inventory on Ritek DL discs to begin with..so I don't think they will fulfill any orders sent in.

Guys, guys, guys...
The link clearly indicates that the media in question is Double Sided...
"Ritek RiDATA Double Sided Shiny Top 9.4GB DVD+R DS Media 50 PACK in Cake Box"
Basically like one guy said already, they're almost like 2 SL discs glued together although not really... it just means that both surfaces are recordable. Popular with some older DVD movies that had Letterbox on the one side and Widescreen on the other. They're also called "flipper" discs...
Definitely handy for people who wanna save some real estate in their DVD binders ;-)

For those who may not know this:
You can still record a DVD-9 movie into a double-sided DVD disc (or 2 regular DVDs) if you want to keep the high quality by using softwares to split the original movie into two parts and then recording it to each side of a double-sided disc or 2 regular DVD discs. The draw back is the hassle of the conversion and the flipping of the disc half way into the movie.

If you have a DVD changer or two DVD drives on your PC, it would be a good idea to split 2 movies and put one part onto each of two discs. The put the two parts of the second movie onto the 'b' side of these discs. 2 movies, 2 discs, but you can at least play one of those movies in full without flipping.
