I love asian food and I'm always looking for new places. Do you know of any places (be it food courts, restaurants, etc) that's relatively inexpensive?

I know the CTC foodcourt has this one food stand that gives you a 3 item plate of various Chinese food for like 3.99, and I also know of Sake Sushi, right beside Pacific Mall. It's an all you can eat sushi/sashimi/related restaurant for only 12$ a person I'm pretty sure.

Real of fake? Or you can just answer, do you like chicken balls?

Irrelevant. If it tastes good I'll eat it.

It is relevant. Any self-respecting Chinese person or even Chinese cuisine connoisseur will not stoop to eating fake Chinese food.

Dear god, what kind of arrogant elitist statement is that? Can you even define to me what "chinese food" means? Food is food, and although I'm quite partial to cantonese cooking, I do appreciate how good the sauce from the garlic and oil rib dish from a buffet tastes. To think that you're too good to eat something is just crass.

I buy the chicken feet, ground beef balls and black bean pork ribs from T&T at the dimsum counter at $2 per portion, take it home and eat it with rice that I cook myself. So that's only $2.20 at most ...

Taiko has 6 veggie springrolls for $2.

I happen to like the "fake" chinese food, or whatever they have at Manchu Wok at the mall.
I like the small ribs with garlic sauce and wontons with cherry sauce...yum :)

I don't think you have to eat only at 5 star places all the time..geezzz;)

As long as the restaurant is clean, it shouldn't matter too much where you eat...

Real asian food is good too, but I can't eat that many spices lately....

Totally untrue. I am 100% full fledged Chinese by ancestry, and I am a heavy consumer of authentic Chinese cuisine, but I have no problems with eating Canadian Chinese food on occasion. Food is food. If it tastes good, I'll eat it. There is nothing wrong with chicken balls or spring rolls or lemon chicken or fortune cookies. We can debate the merits of its authenticity, but it is still edible and it is still delicious. I do not subscribe to your view at all, and I can tell you that your statement is not indicative of the opinions of many Asians. In fact, I find your statements offensive and insulting to those of us who enjoy food.

More to the topic at hand...I'd also recommend First Markham Place as well for both selection and price.

Keep in mind though, that cheap usually means some corners cut which include the addition of MSG and lower grade of meat, etc. - which may have negligible health benefits.

Try out the vietnamese sandwhich stores along spadina (north of dundas).
You can get plates of food for $3.50-$4.00
SAndwhiches for $1.50

My absolute favourite dish at Chinese restaurants is Cantonese Chow Mein. I have it every single time we go out. I just found out recently that it's considered Canadian-Chinese food. Does that make it less tasty or "pure"? Absolutely not.

Don't get up on such a high horse about food. Because it all ends up in the toilet within a few hours, whether it's shark-fin soup or chicken balls.

cheap of the cheap, eh...

Galleria, in commerce gate, the same plaza with korean bbq, by west beaver creek and hwy7, have various menu dishes/entrees for 5-6$ a piece. comes with a hot drink. For what's in the plaza, Galleria is by far the cheapest place you will find in that plaza. (well, maybe besides takebashi, the noodle store there)

it's a 'cha chan tang'...hk style restaurant. not the best, but definitely one of the cheapest of its kind I've found.

Course, they have the nice 13-14$ dinner meals as well, if you're feeling a little more like splurging instead.

T&T at the Promenade Mall starts to discount hot food daily after 7:30 pm. Something like 40-50% off. Sometime around to 9 pm (they close at 10 pm) it gets ridiculous, when they take 50% off discount price. 1kg container of garlic ribs for 3.99 anyone?

Galleria (Korean supermarket) at Yonge&Doncaster starts to discount hot food around 9 pm daily too.

Yeah, Sake Sushi is inexpensive, delicious, and the service is terrific. They charge you for whatever food you don't end up eating, and once my party and I weren't finished by the 1 (1.5?) hour time limit, and they let us stray for another 10-20 minutes. The environment isn't one of those "white guy eats here, treat like idiot" thing either. Numerous times at other places (Sakura Sushi on Jane, others), they'd treat me like I was clueless (at one point I was, just it wasn't welcome the attitude they gave me). By this I mean maybe I'd order something, ask what it is, and they'd laugh and say something in Japanese/Chinese/Korean/what have you, and I'd be oblivious to what they'd say. But at Sake they have a real nice crew there.

yeah, their sashimi is always fresh whenever we went...one thing i hate though is that they NEVER have tapioca when we order our bubble teas, just the jelly thing. But their unlimited amount of complimentary ice cream makes up for it :D

They always charged extra for any pop & icecream for me. :(

One thing I dislike about them is (lol they're located too far) is that it takes too long for food to arrive. Normally with a buffet you'd just go up and get whatever, and it's ready when you get up. I'm not saying it's long, it's just long compared to other places I've been.

speaking of bbq food:

i went to a chinese food court mall, it was pretty run down, but the bbq food place had bbq pork with rice for 2.xx...I think as low as 2.50. All the other meats were 3.50, and 2 bbq items w/ rice for 4$. Midland/sheppard. No idea if it's still in existance as i went there probably over a year ago...almost two. will edit post when i find out it's exact intersection.

Are you referring to the plaza across from Dragon City? It's like next to a CIBC.
