With this cold weather, I want to take homemade soups and congee to work for lunch. Which containers do you recommend that won't leak or break because I'm on the train and my backpack gets shoved around? I can heat it up at work so it must be microwaveable. The ones I got at Walmart seem to leak or sometimes the lid even comes off or unscrews itself ......

Buy a Thermos...it will keep your soup warm, no need to microwave it. I bought this one for the kids for school (imagine how much it's bounced around before it gets to their lockers!)

why don't you get a thermos bottle at Walmart instead? It'll be leak proof and it should keep your food nice and hot for a long time without you needing to warm it up. I recommend Thermos naturally. Get it at Walmart for a good price.

I really don't recommend containers as they're bound to leak with liquids. And even the very good ones... Well, I wouldn't want to risk it.

Great topic. I have a question - does anyone know how long a Thermos can keep, say, soup at a relatively warm temperature for? I realize that it may have something to do with ambient temperature, but all things considered - say, we are keeping the thermos in a heated house to a heated car to a heated office (temps between 19 - 24 celsius). Do you think soup will still be hot (not piping hot, but hot) by noonish - say, 1PM? Any specific thermos models you'd recommend? And...can you get Thermos for food items, not just soup and liquids. Ie. Can I store a whole dish of beef fried noodles in some thermos dish and it will keep it hot till lunch? There's always a lineup for the microwave at work.

get the Ziploc twist lid container, they are great for liquid and the portion it holds are just right (for me it is), or pack 2 and they comes in a package of 3.

These do not hold up to repeated microwaving.

I also hate waiting for the microwave, but if food is at just higher than room temperature when eaten, I think it may have developed some "bacteria". I prefer to nuke it just in case. But I can't nuke the thermos ...

Has nothing to do with toxins... the plastic will warp if you reheat a lot of high fat foods, greasy foods, tomatoe based .

lock and lock containers are air tight and do not leak at all.
