DVD: What is a spool?

I have a spindle of 25 DVDs and I would like to know what part is the "spool"? It is the plastic under each DVDs? Or the platics that cover the 25 DVDs?

spool / spindle - same thing as far as I know.

Technically speaking it's the pole part of the spindle that you place the DVDs on.
