Hey everyone, what would you say are some of the best places to eat in the K-W region? I'm a frequent visitor to Ye's Sushi, Pho Dau Bo, Morty's Wing Night. What other places would people recommend? I'm a big fan of ethnic foods so I'd like to hear if there are good ethnic food joints in the region.

St. Jacobs Farmer Market. Mennonites sell fantastic deli meats and some dairy products are to die for too. Everything else "ethnic" is IMHO second-rate in KW comparing to Toronto.

Jere's what I ate over my 5 yrs there...
Mongolian Grill is crap!!!! Everytime we go, always end up sick!!!
Bubbletease was good, I guess maybe cuz we got discounts and free food because we knew the ppl that worked there.
Leung Yue is good for hotpot. I really miss the owner, always talks to us about the latest NBA or soccer games.
King Street Trio, excellent for more classy dinners. Prices are VERY GOOD too. Very good place for bdays, celebrations, etc. Plus they have live jazz on weekends!!!

Yeah Lotus tea house is not bad. I can't agree with your second statement though. Waterloo is NOT a great city!!!

I find waterloo more peaceful. transit isn't the greatest. and why is a 3-lane one-way erb st. only 50km/h, when the 2-lane 2-way university ave north of erb st 60km/h beats the hell out of me.

Mongolian grill is So crappy... considering the other mongolian grills (don't think they're affiliated wih the KW one) is so much better since they have a full buffet on the side to accompany the "grilling."
Ben Thahn is amazing though, i love it there, and the waitresses are pretty nice looking too! =D
KW imho is a horrible place to be anytime other than summer. I loved it there in the summer, but its gonna suck like hell when i'm back in the winter =/

Definitely try it at least once. Went there tonight and got the Chicken Pad Thai along with a strawberry milkshake. Both were very good with good portion size and affordable prices. The Pho is also very good.
Overall, I'm not a big fan of the Kitchener-Waterloo area. I just started a 12 month internship in Waterloo in September and I miss London. Waterloo is basically an older/dirtier/uglier version of London.

31 University Avenue East
Mapquest/googlemaps/yahoomaps it.
Get something with shrimp if you go. Like the cashews/vegetables/shrimp dish. I forget what it's called. They use gigantic, tasty shrimp. The lunch/dinner combo specials are garbage though. Not worth it. I think it's catered to the sweet and sour pork crowd.
