I'm going to be in Edmonton next week on business. Anyone have restaurant recommendations there (for lunch and dinner) in the general vicinity of West Edmonton Mall? Don't mind traveling a bit either, if it's good. Open to any kind of cuisine, but I figure out there it's mainly Alberta beef :P.

Around West Ed I love Cheesecake Cafe (keep going North on 170 St from the mall). Big menu, large portions and lots of cheesecake choices. Its relatively cheap. I also like Dante's on St. Albert Trail/170 St. Bit more expensive, but fairly classy and food is pretty good. I find CHili's Texas Grill good too (also North on 170th St from WEM).
My favorite restaurant is called the Manor Cafe, which is on the west end of downtown. Google maps is your friend. Its about a 15-20 minute drive from WEM, but its well worth it. Very nice patio and the dishes are quite unique. All under $15 for lunch for very good dining. Dinner runs around $25-30 a dish.

The Sawmill and the Keg are good steak type restaurants. Earls also does a good steak. If you venture downtown, there is Ruth's Chris. A good place for rack of Lamb is Cafe de Ville.

Agree with above poster that Keg is good for meat. I like Dante's as well, price did not bother me too much as I don't go all that often..
Check this page out for non-franchise restaurants, I haven't been to many of them but a few are good:

Dante's Bistro is usually pretty good in the west end.
Downtown the Hardware Grill is very good but $$$$
Near Southgate is Jacks Grill also good and $$$
On Whyte near mill creek is the Unheardof, quite good but need reservations usually pretty far in advance.

Depends on what kind of food you are looking for. I know you didn't mention breakfast, but I just wanted to note that Barb and Ernie's has an amazing breakfast selection - we went there last time and it was so filling. My cousins live in Edmonton and they say Barb and Ernie's has good meals period (and the owners - a German couple - will come up and say hi to each table and make conversation). If you like Chinese food, Good Buddy is excellent as well.
