I remember hearing that iPod Nano's (2nd gen in this case) doesnt work with USB 1.1 in order to charge, as well as transfer songs.

My girlfriend's brother's computer only has USB 1.1 ports and he recently bought an ipod Nano.

If I just buy this:

and install it, it should be fine right? Do I need to check some type of compatibility between the specific USB PCI card with his motherboard? Or, as long as he has a PCI slot free, it should work fine?

Also, does his "motherboard" need to support "USB 2.0" speeds in order for this card to work?

Or does this card simply give the computer USB 2.0 port speeds?

Thanks!

I don't know if iPod Nanos will not work with USB 1.1, they should, in order to be backwards compatible. However, if you buy that, and his motherboard has a free PCI slot, it should work, provided you plug the USB 2 device into the card and not the motherboard. It is an addon card that does not change the functionality of the motherboard.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

After looking around a bit, I'm pretty sure the iPod Nano does need USB 2.0. My g/f's brother tried it, and it wouldn't connect, nor would it charge.

Oh okay, thank you for your reply. I was pretty sure it would, but I just wnated to confirm before I bought the card.

Because I initially thought that if the motherboard's USB ports were 1.1, then it was not possible to get USB 2.0 speeds, even using a USB 2.0 PCI card. But that would've sucked.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I'll probably purchase the card within the next day or two.

Regardless of whether or not the iPoo will work with 1.1, spend the $15 to get the USB2 card. It's well worth not having to wait half your life away transferring files via USB1. I know from experience :).
