So.. now that I have a 2900 Pro I installed Vista on another drive and am playing around with it.
Problem is DirectSound got dropped, and the free version of Alchemy (Alchemy Universal) does not seem to work with TF2/Source games. Looks like the official version of it also does not work with it.
Anyone got a solution or suggestion?
I'm not going to bother Vista if I'm forced to listen to software sound when I have a perfectly good sound card.

Doesn't work, or doesn't detect the game? Did you try adding it manually to Alchemy (use the GamePath instead of RegPath, easier to do)?

I've run it through Alchemy, but the sound still sounds craptacular, so I don't think it is actually working.

Any idea what the game is using for its sound engine (don't have the game, and searching didn't turn up anything)?
If you haven't, try editing the dsound.ini (can be done from within the Alchemy window, or open the dsound.ini inside the TF2 folder). From the looks of things here,

all Source based games use the following settings,
Buffers=5
Duration=10

Huh, I'll try that. Thanks for the tip.

I tried it, and judging by the dsound.log file, it is translating. Still sounds hollow though.
I guess I just prefer the non-translated sound.. sounds better to me somehow.
