My LCD TV does not accept vga inputs resolutions higher than 1024x768. I'm wondering if I can use a vga to component cable to get around this so I can use a widescreen resolution? They seem pretty cheap but I don't know if this is possible or not.

It's really weird that your TV would just have some arbitrary resolution limit on the VGA input, so my first thought is what is the native resolution of your LCD TV, and/or is it capable of HD resolutions?
The VGA-to-Component cables do work, but only with cards that support them, and the only ones I can think of that do are the ATi Radeon 9800 series, not saying others don't, but those are all I know of. Probably worth checking with your card manufacturer if it will support such a cable before buying one.

The TV is an LG 37LC2D-UD. The native res is the 1366x768 or whatever the norm is on HDTV's but the vga input resolution limitation is only for this particular revision of the TV. Yeah it sucks but I'd rather try to find a way around it rather than buy a new TV. I'm also running the PC to the monitor off a Radeon 8500LE.
I've also posted this question on avsforum. I think those guys will have a better idea of what I can do. I'll post updates when I can.

Have you tried a little tweak with PowerStrip ?
If you're able to get 1366x768 or even 1280x720 you're all good to go.

The 8500LE? You're in luck! You'll need an ATi Part number 151-V01094. For some messed up reason, ATI has this on their CDN site for $49 and on their US site for $29 http://www.shopati.ca/product.asp?sku=2538031

Try looking for monitor drivers for your TV. Also upgrade to latest video card drivers. I've seen problems before where video cards can't correctly identify maximum resolution of a monitor when it's set to generic plug and play monitor. With drivers specific to the TV it should have the max resolution.

Wow didn't realize they had it in stock. I kept searching for it but couldn't find it. Only problem is it's really overpriced. Can anyone find a cheaper alternative? Monoprice only has the dvi-component one but I shot off an email to see if they have the vga one.
I'm looking through a thread right now on avsforum.com about making my own cable that could work with some registry hacks as well.

I've been only able to find VGA to BNC cables, but they are R G and B coloured, so they should be compatible with your TV's Component inputs, right?

You could try one of these vga to component adapters... http://ati.amd.com/products/hdtvadapter/gallery.html
Not sure if they'll work with the LE though...
