Just a few minutes ago, I was leaning back in my chair browsing threads on this forum, when all of a sudden my computer turned off. I think it shut off because I had been playing with the cables in the back with my foot.
This is a brand new computer, and it has never done this before.
My question is:
What kind of effect does a power down like this have on my computer?

If your hdd was in used like copying a file or something and you shut your pc off that way it can kill the drive from my past experiences

I turned my computer back on, and my hard drive is working fine. Is there anything else that could have been damaged by the power outage?

umm, ive heard of some power supply failures because of turning the power on and off too much (like unnessecarily too much..) but once in a while it can happen, and as stated above the only real danger is when your copying files and your hard drive is in use.. as that is pretty much the only mechanical thing in the computer, its most prone to damage.

Sounds good.
What I was afraid of is, when I tell Windows to Shut Down my computer, it will go through its Shut Down "phase". However due to the power failure, the computer wasn't shut down through this "phase" and maybe some parts of my computer (including Operating System) could have been damaged, because they weren't ready for shutdown.

lol, chill out bro, this is 2007, most now days computer can take a bashing and still work fine, it aint 1957 with the computer size of a room. other then losing data, not much harm is caused because of the software isnt shut down properly

Thats a dangerous time, if something is being shut down and does not enter the G5 power state, your hard disk may cease to exist as it easily overheats when the G5 is not moved into from G4.
 If your so worried, get a UPS.
