Speakers: Logitech Z-2300 or Soundsticks II ??

Or I can get the soundsticks II on ebay that were used for 3 months for 90 dollars.

which speakers do you suggest I get? Keep in mind Z-2300 are THX certified.

I've got a set of the Logitech Z-2300 as well. They're a pretty good set of speakers however, I'm sure some will disagree and start shouting about how it's all bass and no midrange or something like that.

For casual listening and gaming the speakers are pretty good and do the job quite well. And personally, I think the Soundsticks look a little too odd for my liking. With regards to the sound quality though, can't really compare since I've never heard the Soundsticks. I still like the Z-2300 though.

the mid range is indeed lacking compared to other THX systems. But you can get a refurb z-2300 on ebay or other comp stores for under $100

My post might possibly start an argument here but, I don't think buying Bose speakers is a good idea. The general consensus here (and really anywhere on the internet) is that Bose is really overpriced for what you get and you should stay away from it if you can as there are much better alternatives for the same price.

I tend to think myself that they sound decent but unless you have a lot of pocket change, there are other things you can get that are more worth it. You can find a link to more reasons as to why they suck by clicking over here (http://www.firstadopter.com/fa/archives/001749.html).

Logitech Z-2300 midrange isn't bad, it's just that other computer speakers produce the midrange a lot better. Really though, most people would be satisfied with the Z-2300 until they have heard better - then they can start ranting about how the Z-2300 midrange sucks :lol:. Really though, the Z-2300 is a pretty good package for the price in terms of sound, features and looks.

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 has great bass, good midrange, and great highs. Altec Lansing MX5021 has decent bass, excellent midrange, and great highs. Most people would probably prefer the sound of the Klipsch since it's a more comparable upgrade from the Logitech Z-2300.

Edifier S2.1D has also gotten really good reviews all over the net though the company is unheard of compared to the big names.

the klipsch promedia is really cheap on ebay, only like 50 dollars. Why is that? When it retails for 200 at tigerdirect.

people seem to like it though.. maybe because they see "Klipsch"... but whether it really sounds good i don't know

The Edifier S2.1D has been discontinued, don't see them anywhere.
I have a set and if you are not planning to use optical in, then get something else. The analog input's volume is too low for my taste ( I went through two sets)

I'd recommend the Z-2300 only because they're new...with a used pair of speakers you really don't know what the last person did to them. I'm pretty sure the HK SS2 will sound better though. I did a lot of reading between these two...I was planning to get one before I decided to go the bookshelf/amp route and haven't looked back since.

ok. so i know
- always buy new speakers
- klipsch > logitech but klipsch's amps blow out (i wont be maxing out much however)
- soundsticks are the best. however these are not THX ceritified? so does it lack a lot compared to THX certified speakers?

take THX certification with a grain of salt

there is much audio equipment out there without THX certification that would pass it half asleep
