I would personally find this most useful in the deals section. Especially during peak times of the year, deals get buried very quickly. If you leave for lunch or are at work for the day, you can miss some great deals!
Much like the various social networking websites, what about the ability to allow people to tag threads? Then people could jump more quickly to the deals they want.
The "prefix" option currently used for the hot deals is a good start but the major limitation is that it is only a few selections and you can only have a single tag on a single thread.
For example, a deal on a pack of CFL bulbs could be tagged "home", "green" and who knows what else :)
