Looking at getting an AGP card for an aged system.
What agp video card would be the best match for:
P4 2.4B (socket 478).
1 gig DDR400
I know a x1950pro agp will be overkill.
So how fast of a card before the bottleneck would be back onto the system?
I current have a 9800 pro and that's not cutting it at 1280x1024 for some games.
x800xl, x800xt, x850xt?
x1900?
Would prefer to stick with ATI unless there's a compelling reason. thx. :)

You could get an agp card, but if you get a new pc next year, then you will have to get a new pcie video card. You wouldn't notice much difference between any of the low-mid range cards, but the 1950 should be noticable, DEPENDING on how fast your agp is (ie. 2, 4 or 8).

I had a 6600GT before I went to a X1950Pro, and it pretty much tripled my frame rates.

Yeah, you can't really compare a porsche with a civic. Its nice being able to play games with all of the settings set to max and not have to worry about lag and stuttering. With some games the difference in detail is amazing.

What were the specs on your system though?
He's using a older P4... If it were me, I'd look for an X800 card used in the BST (~$65 or so)

It's 8x agp.
I'll rather not buy a x1950 due to price.
Any other inputs on the x800/x850 cards?

x850 XT PE or x800 XT PE is very nice aswell, but if you want somethign that will last...get the x1950. you will not be dissapointed, right now i bought the AGP version of this x1650 pro for $145 and now im selling my computer for $325! half of the money im getting is for my video card alone!! so if i were you dont get an agp video card (they are always overpriced to their PCI-e companion) and just wait till the phenoms drop by, current cpu/mobo prices will drop down like crazy, and u'll get a nice quad core cpu with an 8800 for sub $800
