I saw an advertisement (can't remember who) for a turkey that goes directly into your oven from the freezer. It comes packaged with seasoning in a special foil bag that keeps the meat moist. Anyone know of a grocer that carries these types of birds?

I don't know about this, but it's easy to cook a normal turkey. Just thaw it out and cook it in a roasting pan with some water to keep it moist. The one you're talking about is going to be a lot more expensive.
You might want to try a store with a lot of exotic types of things like The Real Canadian Superstore though. :)

ive never tried roasting/baking a turkey straight from the freezer. however, i have tried baking a turkey using an oven bag thats made of plastic. it claims that it reduce the cooking time and keeps the turkey from drying out. i so regret using it. it did reduce the cooking time, but the appearance of the turkey was so bad and some of the skin was stuck to the bag. the skin was not brown as compared to the time i bake a turkey the traditional way. when i held the turkey, it literally fell apart bc it was overcooked due to the heat building up in the bag. cooking it the traditional way, my friends doesnt believe i made it bc it looked too good to be homemade. so i would never recommend someone to use an oven bag, nor would i use one again.

Thanks for the tips. I have cooked turkeys before but wanted something quick.

MM meatshops always sells the pre seasoned turkey breast roast that is alreadt stuffed.

It is not in a bag but shrink wrapped plastic/packaging and u have to unwrap it and put it in a pan with water and foil, cook for 2 hours and that's it :)

my parents used to make that for the holidays once in a while.
You can buy them year round and they cost $15-20...serves 3 or 4 people

forgot to add you cook these from frozen so no defrosting.
i make in the toaster oven and it turns itself off, so no sitting at home to turn off the oven

every year, i bake a tukey from scratch, but last thanksgiving, i decided to try one of the pre-baked turkey. its not frozen tho. all i had to do was remove it from the bag, place on a pan and roast in oven for a few hours. the result was really good also. first i thought it would be really dry since i'm baking it for the 2nd time, but it was really moist. it doesnt seem the same since its already pre-cooked and not the same as from scratch.

My friend bought a cook from frozen, boneless turkey and I had some of it.
I didn't like it really. Seemed a bit artificial to me. I just bought a turkey today for $1.79/lb at IGA and it looks good. A real turkey.

Was the one your friend bought like a whole turkey?

I don't know too much about whole turkeys so kinda curious.

Mine was actually just the turkey breast that was stuffed, here's the pic/info:

I'm not really sure. He just saved me a plate (with mashed potatoes, stuffing (separate) and carrots) and he brought it to me.
It was pretty small he said, so it could have been breast, but when I tried it, it actually almost looked like a slice of pork, but had a bit of darkness to it.
Didn't like it at all. There was no stuffing in the meat though. :)

The picture you linked looks really good and tasty.

As I said, I just bought a frozen turkey a couple of days ago. I don't think I've ever cooked a turkey, but I'll look on the web to find the best way to do it.

The MM meats one is pretty good, it is pretty much the turkey breast part only and the stuffing is in the middle- so no "dark" turkey parts.

I like it cuz I do ot like dark meat that much.

But a 1kg or 1.5kg, enough for maybe 3 plates is about $16 or so...so really not that cheap.

But they are quite popular and last few times I tried to buy one they were all sold out, and it was not even a holiday.

I see butterball has a similar product, but I'm kind of afraid to try it as it does not look as good...it's sold at Walmart and loblaws i think...
