Hi all,

I have a digicam (sanyo J4) which worked great since day 1 until now, almost 4 years now.
symptoms:
the lcd screen preview shows the image properly
but when I took a picture, it comes out as "purplish and very washed out"

The shapes can be guessed but it is just purple and washed out with a 200 pixel radius.

The same morning, I was able to take pictures fine. Nothing changed in between...

Now if the CCD transmit what it sees to the display panel fine, i can see what I am about to shot, why the saved image is all bad?
any idea of test I could do to get it back?
Is my digicam dying?

I think it's time for a new digicam :)

Your viewfinder image isn't a direct feed from the CCD, sounds like you have some hardsoftware issues. It's been pretty humid lately, so you might have a moisture problem.. even so, it's time to push on to another unit. Most of this newer technology isn't built to last ages.... 5 years if you're lucky, so flip it in 2-3 years for half money. (if you can and move on)

yeah I understand without extended warranty it will be hard to recover my lovely digicam. I guess it is more emotional than anything else, we have been through so many picture and adventure across the world!

What are CCD affected by?
moisture? I can let it dry!
Dirt? maybe I can clean them!
Age? some wrinkle lotion would work?

Leave it alone for a few days (age it:rolleyes), then come back to it... try again with new media. I hear a lot of the problems seem to come after this kind of equipment is left in a hot car at the beach.

I have tried the aging and cleaner of all sorts (dusted inside out too).
I will check with other media too. (thanks I forgot to try that out)
