In the US, for online shopping www.rockauto.com
For B&M stores Advance Auto Parts is quite good, AutoZone as well, but AAP is usually the cheapest I find.
The good thing about US parts stores is they have online stores where you can look everything up, and find prices.
Rock Auto has pretty much the best online prices but even if you just want to go to a B&M AAP for example, you can just go to www.advanceautoparts.com and look up their prices online for any part for whatever car it is. No need to go into the store or even phone, just look it up online.
Maybe 10 years from now, Canadian parts stores will catch up

Air filters arent expensive at dealer, your looking at maybe 10-20$ for the filter.
Brake pads hondas, ones that are equivlent or better than factory range from 60 - 100+ and discs are at about 30 each after tax so mite as well get the discs if you need them.
Quest in scarborough is good, carquest seems to be okay, or autospot in mississuga.

I don't know how it compares with the others mentioned here, but what about Pep Boys? Been there once before to pick up something we don't get in Canada.

Yeah it's around the same. I find that AAP has the best prices for B&M stores just over the ON border. PepBoys website stinks though, compared to AAP and AutoZone's sites.

As for what stores there are across ON borders, you can easily fine AAP, AutoZone, PepBoys (I think there is one), NAPA, and CarQuest across the Niagara border.

they ship from canada, and use the same worldpac catalog as all the other internet based suppliers, with lower commissions.

I've ordered from RockAuto and had it shipped to my door here in Ontario.
They will provide a firm delivery price that includes shipping, duty and GST.
I placed my order on a Monday evening and the stuff arrived Friday morning.
No problems.
Before placing the order, I checked prices from Canadian alternatives. In the end, RockAuto offered a big savings
My purchase came to approx $450US (total). The same parts here in Ontario would have been almost $600Cdn (total)
Since there will always be a minimum shipping cost, I'm guessing that you will need to place an order greater than $75 to see a savings.

http://www.autopartsway.ca/ is another online retailer which uses the same catalog as http://www.bestpricecarparts.com/.
Autopartsway will pricematch Canadian stores as well. (i.e. bestpricecarparts.com)

That's not true. Honda dealer charges around $17 for all passenger car air filters. It's the good quality pre-oiled kind too. Walmart/CT charges around the same amount (if not more) for cheap quality non-oiled fram ones.
