pretty cool system of control..u don't use the actual directional pad...but just the stylus..it takes a lil while to get used to when you attack and such but hey i guess that's what you pay for innovation..im just worried about later in teh game when i need to manuever fast...i guess i'll get used to it...but the game is hot...
u can write things for reminders on maps...draw out the path u went such and such

I've got it also, the advanced techniques so far are a little hard to pull off (ex. to roll you have to draw a little circle at the edge of the screen, but sometimes it thinks that you drew a big circle and performs a spin attack).

I'm about 10 hours in and loving it. Most of the controls are touchscreen, but you will find yourself using the D pad & L button as shortcuts for the map & items. It's very easy, and more puzzles rather than hack & slash.

Just finished the game about 10 minutes ago. I'm not a hardcore gamer so it's taken me a while. My thoughts on the game.
Gameplay: I liked the setup. Using the stylus to move and attack was simple and straightforward. The only thing I didn't like was rolling which was rather awkward. I ended up playing the game without rolling. I particularly liked being able to scribble notes to myself all over the map. It made things a lot easier to remember.
The variety of tools you acquire along the way are pretty neat, especially as you get further into the game. The way each tool is used is neat and enjoyable.
Working your way through the game is pretty good for the most part. Sailing is a bit slow but not too bad. I'm sure the developers realized this so they introduced the golden frogs once you get into the game. The Ocean King Temple however I found to be more WAY tedious than necessary. Having to go through each floor every time was awful, even if you scribbled notes to guide yourself. It was actually the reason I put down the game for 2-3 months and moved on to FFIII. The non-Ocean King temples however were simple enough for me to enjoy.
Bosses for each level were well designed too, with each one requiring to use your newly obtained gizmo. Some bosses were a little tougher than others, but in the end all were relatively easy, with none being "this is ********" hard.
The sidequests (fishing, salvaging, etc.) are all simple little games and are pretty fun. Most of the items are relatively easy to get. However some like the arrow and target shooting games, I didn't bother as they were simply too time consuming.
Graphics:
The graphics for this game were pretty average for the DS. The use of the cartoonish characters obviously prevented it from having any seriously detailed animation. I would've liked to see some short movie cut scenes though.
I particularly liked the use of the 2 screens. It was very easy reference the information you needed through most of the game. Top score however were for playing the bosses that required the use of both screens. It made the experience just that much bigger.
Sound:
Not much to comment on here.
Story:
The story overall was simple and enjoyable. Nothing deep but fun enough to carry through. Ending was a bit predictable but entertaining nonetheless.
Overall:
I would have to say the game was very good. The use of the touch screen and dual screen setup was excellent. The story is good. Levels and bosses are all challenging but none of them being ridiculously hard. Side quests were manageable too with a little effort (unlike Final Fantasy ones). Personally I don't see much replay value, but I still think it's a game worth getting.
I give The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass 8/10.
