Hi,
I was wondering what you guys have paid previously to get Daylight Running Lights installed? I was just told by a dealer that ONLY dealers could isntall them (which seems like a lie), and they were going to get back to me.

I wonder if they are going to try and rip me off because I'm buying from the US.

Thanks,

Darryl

certain cars should only be done at the dealer imo (like my audi) because it's software controlled and i prefer to do it properly than jerry rig it with wiring

What's the car? I'm not sure about it, but I remember I posted a picture of my Civic on honda-tech and everyone was wondering why I had daytime running lights. Seems Civic's between 1992-1995 made in the US don't have daytime running lights while in Canada they do.

Either way, I always figured it was just a relay to get them working, but I don't know.

Save yourself some money, just manually turn on the lights every time you start the car..

That wouldn't work seeing as some DRLs are low output illumination vs. high beams which may be HIDs or bi-xenon that will burn out the more they are used, especially if they're used all the time.

They may also be too bright.

Most DRLs are the OEM modules which they just install. Nothing much is different rather than the feeling you are getting it done right at an Audi dealer. My car is from the states and I have it with the module (installed from CT) and it looks fine. Infiniti was quoting me something around $400 bucks to get that done...

If you are too cheap to install the module, you car wire the lowbeams directly to the ignition so whenever the car powers up, the lowbeams come up. One of my friends WRX had that installed, and this was done at a Suburu dealership.

OP is trying to import a car, it doesn't work like that. The car must be equipped with DRLs in order for it to be able to be imported/registered in Canada. You can't just tell them "hey I'll turn on the lights everytime I start the car" LOL. You can do that on any car... DRLs did not become mandatory in Canada because the government thought people driving didn't know how to turn on their lights

my dad has cut the relay to take off the daytime running lights.
It leads to premature burnouts of your high beam on the civics.

That's great but what does it have to do with the OP getting DRLs installed on a US bought car (which, again, is mandatory or it won't be let in the country for registration)?

What car? DRL Module will run about 30-100$.

Honda ones are cheap, but the funny thing is the circuitboard itself starts to leak (bad solders well i dont know how they split contact) but they end up stop working or making ticking noises, and ppl pay $160-200 to fix that module when a new one costs $30 or all u do is take a solder iron and solder around the cracks and voila last you abuot 3-4 years before it starts to do the same ****..haha damn hondas

If it's just reprogramming like the Audi mentioned above, then it could be done for almost nothing if you can find somebody with a programmer.

When I imported my car, I just bought some wire, and a relay from Radio Shack and wired it up to the fuse panel. No big deal, at least on my car...About an hour of work, and $30. in parts.

i'd like to have DRLs on my 6th gen accord but since i got HIDs its no use, it will shorten the HID life ....american honduhs don't have DRLs

Imported a truck from the US to here, had to have forms filled out stating that the odometer was correct and that I had day time running lights. I went to CT to get it done and was done within a hour or so and the cost was about $150, they filled out the paperwork and stamped it and mailed it in i believe along with giving me a copy to mail.

depends on which car.

With volvo, MB etc, they use their low beams as DRL

i noticed with japanese, they have an extra bulb that runs as drl.

American cars dont have DRL but in canada in order to pass safety youll need DRL. cars in the US, honda or dodge or whatever dont have drl
