Their official site indicates there will be news today, so it is just a matter of time before it is possible for everyone. Lets hope it is not 30 wires :( Lets also hope it is not related to the WiiKey team or the indicated date may not be accurate!

Check the site for install diagrams - 31 wires. Pain in the butt, stripping 31 wires will be the hardest part :(

Access control LEDs

i thought it was obvious from the logo and site design, but I was informed almost a month ago, of course not able to release the info. Anyways I get shipped my batch around next week or so ..but who really knows when I'll get it:)

I would be more concerned about the install method and pricing right now since nothing is publicly available. Hopefully schematics will be up soon.

Pricing is fairly expensive, a lot more than the wiikey was when it was first released. installation method is fairly straightforward, but definitely not for amateurs as its all ic connections. wire count is approx 30.

if you ask me on a level of difficulty doing the cut leg d2b without dremeling is harder than doing this install. This one will take a bit longer, but if you are comfortable soldering side by side on the ic then it isnt going to be much of a problem. if you have an old ps2 board lying around solder to the controller with wire next to each other, if you can do it then youre going to be fine.

"350MHz Performance with advanced AES128 bit encryption"

Wtf are they running ARM9? The old mod chips were atmel AVR 8 bit micros which run a max of 20 mhz, the new one runs 350mhz and it has to be 32 bits.

That is like 100x the performance, the mod chip is probably more powerful than the console.

On the site it shows an actel IC, I am guessing that the prototypes are based on an Actel FPGA or some actel ASIC development kit. Not sure how they can get 350 mhz from a Actel FPGA or from the asic dev kit, the Cortex soft FPGA cores from Actel show up as running a Max of 72 mhz

My guess is that once the prototyping is done they are going to ship out the design for ASIC, which means that it will be very tough to copy/crack the mod chip. Well the fact that they put in the effort to do AES encryption tells me that they want to protect their work, but AES is not tough to do they probably just copied someones code for AES implementation, lord knows that there must be a tonne of encryption algorithims for the cortex core to copy off of. lol, mod chip companies concerned about protecting their own work, the irony.

From what I understand the Atmel AVR is very easy to crack and dump out its contents, this is probably why there were so many clones. Probably with this mod chip that will not be the case.

I really hope someone is able to make clones of this mod chip, what goes around should come around.

I take your point about irony.

It can also be argued they are protecting the customer from hostile updates since they have to be signed with a private key. The chip will likely cloned by using logic probes.

Companies have two ways of protected themselves, litigation and technology. Of the two, choosing a technological solution is the most honest. If nintendo really cared about piracy they would have implemented a technological solution to the problem (ditto ms).

I also do not think nintendo really cares, they must be making good money off the console itself, MS and Sony though they must care.

I like hacking and modding, but when it gets to the stage where hackers are using a fancy 350mhz cortex core and 30 wires to implement the mod it becomes too extreme, it feels like hacking for profit vs hacking for fun.

How much is this chip? I am guess that it will be atleast $100 bucks, maybe even $150. Whomever designed this mod chip looks like they are after some serious bling.

I guess now I have to try soldering direct to ic, and the alt points now. At least now with the alt points not just the pros will be doing the installs, which is good news for us.

By the sounds of it it will get to official resellers mid-month or so, so I would assume most people, myself included, will be doing it by month end.

Distributors are getting it mid october, and even then in batches as they wont have enough to supply us with our full order. From there resellers are going to get their batches. And from that anyone else wanting to order would get them. Right now im not even sure how many I will actually receive or when. I do have a waiting list building up as well. It really wont be in proper circulation until 1-2 months, if that. I suspect after xmas is when we will really have stock in proper circulation.

How does this chip compare to the Wiikey? Or is this chip really just for D2C Chipsets.

I have a first generation wii (launch day) that I'm stillt hinking about moding.

The d2ckey is just a solution for the d2c chipset, developed by the wiikey team.

Go with the wiikey on your first gen wii, I charge $50 installed with authentic chip if interested. For the D2Ckey it will be approx $120 cdn.

I'll have some stock for those on my waiting list. I am getting a very small batch in, from there I have to supply a few resellers, some for my site and enough to cover my list.

I suggest if you want it before xmas get on the list from now :)

Given the time it takes to install those, I imagine installers like myself and DJXP will have a delay due to the long waiting list :p

These might be dumb questions, I'm not sure!

- Can you play multiplayer online games with a backup?
- Will the D2CKey survive a WII firmware update? (probably unknown I'd guess)

Fortunately my WII is not going to be used until Christmas, so I have time for some history on the D2CKey... and I can install it myself easily.

with the way drive mods work not too likely, it seems all that can really be done is little things like blocking off header codes which weve overcome by just changing them. We can also use header codes from real gc games , they cant exactly go blocking those ones :)

I have been doing these non-stop since I got them from DJXP and my other supplier. I can say it takes a lot of time, I am sleep deprived, and it is a pain in the butt. I have stopped doing them for two reasons. The first is the time - it really does take a long time, especially to make it nice and clean like that. The second is from doing it so much, apparently I have inflammed a tendon in my wrist from being too tense or something. I had trouble holding my arm still! I tried one with my left hand, but it took me 5 hours instead of 2, so I am just gonna stop for now until it is better.

I have also developed a strong distaste for stripping wires.

Hey dudes, I'm not here to steal any of your guys modding business, but what type of wire do you guys use to mod it? Like what type and gauge do you use. Can you suggest a place for an amature hobbyist to get the wire from?

Thanks!
