Hi all,
I got nailed for a 45km/h in 40km/h zone ticket this morning in downtown Toronto. No points demerit. How badly will that effect my insurance?
I had no speeding tickets before, one hit and run case claim in parking lot.
Thanks for any advice in advance,
Chris

45 in a 40?!?!
That pig must have not had his donuts this morning ... really though!
As far as the insurance goes, it really all varies from company to company and based on your record and how they treat it. In general, a ticket is a ticket, and chances are that your premium might go up slightly. You can always take it to court and discuss it with the prosecutor - they might even get rid of it considering it's only 5 over.

Were you doing more than 45 and the cop knocked it down to 45?
If the cop already knocked it down the preosecutor normally will not drop the charge. If you were actually doing only 45, yes go see the prosecutor and request them to drop the charge.

It was 60 and knocked down to 45, so I think dropping it is not an option. Would it worth my time to book a court date?

I am ready to pay it, and I am prepare for an increase. However, I am hoping that the insurance company (statefarm) is going to let this one go since we have quite a few coverage with them (3 high end car, 1 low end, house, life) for many many years...
Anyone has experience with statefarm?

usually insurance companies won't check your record every year.
My insurance company (says they) won't increase my rate unless I have a major offense (4 points) or multiple tickets.

call them and ask, but use IF statements.

Stop doing 50% over the limit and you wouldn't need to ask these questions.
60 in a 40 is insane!

Brent,
it was in one of the downtown bigger streets where they suddenly change speed. It's not in like a school area and narrow streets. If I am doing 150 in a 100 zone, then I think I am truly and idiot, but 60 on a normal street where they have put a slow limit on, I think it's understandable. On top, that is the first time I go on that street because the street I usually go on has some major construction and I had to detour to another that one. I am not saying I am right in any case but I am not looking for a lesson either.
This is my first traffic violation in my 8 yrs driving, and I think it's as minor as it can get.
Cheers.

For someone saying 60 on 40 is insane, I'm assuming these are those people are blocking the traffic all the time
Personally, I won't go thru the trouble to contest it, no points deduct it. It won't be so bad for the insurance.
The police dept is just short in cash, so they nail everyone they likes to.
