How negotiable are these guys? Never bought a Subaru before, looking into getting an Impreza.

Thanks!

You can easily get $2000 off when first negotiating but like anyother dealership they will try to add in some fees or the old "talk to the manager" crap to jack up the price.

My cousin got $1750 off his '07 Impreza SE, the salesman at Scarboro Subaru tried the going back and forth to his sales manager thing (salesman says sure $2000 off but then he goes to the manager and he they can't sell at that price, etc back and forth trying to jack up the price). He finally relented and went down to $1750 but had the salesman throw in the cargo tray, back bumper thing, wheel locks, floor mats, engine heater. But like with any dealership stick to your guns.

But if you have time get a Subaru from the States, for a bit more than the price of an Impreza you could get a nice Legacy in the States. The Impreza in the States will save you a few hundred to a thousand since it's made in Japan so it may not be worth your time.

GET IT FROM THE US.

you will save 20% at least with the buying power we have with our currency.

Second that one,

STi Canadian '07 - $48'000
STi US '07 - $33'000

LOL..highway robbery I tell ya.

Get a Legacy from the USA.

Imprezas = Duty

Even with the duty I'm thinking it will still be cheaper given the fifteen thousand dollar difference in the STi, no?

I might be blind but nowhere do I see him mentioning he wants an STI. The base level imprezas are cheaper in the USA, but sometimes not to the point of going through all the hassle.

I said Legacies because even at the base level, it's hugely advantageous to cross over because they bypass the duty.

Also the new Impreza is no better than the old Impreza except 100x uglier. It looks like a Sebring with a spoiler.

That's no joke, because the old Impreza wasn't exactly known for it's stunning good looks to begin with.

Go with the Legacy.

All I'm gonna say is don't buy an automatic Subaru. The 4-speed gearbox they have is one of the worst ones out there. Also, try to get the dealer to put good tires on it, Subi's are known for having craptacular stockers.

I think I am in the minority but I like the new hatchback impreza except the grill. It definitely looks like a rip off from a chrysler.

Sorry it's just meant as a example to the OP, any model he get's will be advantageous currently to buy in the US, I was just giving a example of how large the price difference can be.

Even with the base impreza, you are still going to save $4K by going to the US, even after the 6.1% duty. Your savings escalate as you move up on the options and trim level.

No you're right I didn't see him post about the STi either, but your post followed someone else's about an STi, which is why I made the comment. I'm hoping that regular Imprezas aren't as much as $15k overpriced, heh.

The last-gen Impreza, I'd definitely have a Legacy anyway. The latest-gen Impreza just came out though, I haven't seen that much about it and there isn't a WRX or WRX STi yet anyway, right?

There's a WRX but no STi yet.

5-door hatch just like they said it would be, and ugly as hell IMO.
'08 WRX has a single differential in it, and open differentials in the front/rear instead of LSD. It uses simulated AWD by using the traction control. In most people's opinion it does not compare to the previous WRX's. They give up mechanical AWD for price savings and weight. As for the STi we don't know yet.

Thanks for the feedback so far. We're interested in one of the 2.5i models since it's going to be another family car, so nothing special for this one.

What's wrong with the automatic gearbox?

what's with the huge wing, it's a wagon/hatch for god sake.

And technically a STI is still a WRX, it's called WRX STI.

Dunno about the impreza
The 5 EAT in the Legacy is pretty nice, dont mind it at all with the GT.

A little less fun...

I think the base 2.5i is pretty good value compared to what's on the Canadian market for ~$21,000.

You should aim for getting the Sports trim but pay the base price and no more :~)

I looked at them the other day when I took Rex in for service. The sedan is very utlitarian...but I already forgot how it looked like.

The wagon has a nice rear, the trunk looked a little less spacious that mine though.
