I've got old Chevrolet Nova 1987. Oil was changed three months ago, and usually I don't drive more than 20km a day. I was thinking about buying one of those Quaker State oils from WM. http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=496025 but since I didn't have owner's manual for the car, can someone suggest me which type of oil should I get: 5w-30 or 10w-30? I figured that I won't need synthetic oil for 20 years old car, but maybe I am wrong. Also is it safe to mix different brands and types of oil for engine? For reference engine is 1.6L 4cyl, and car essentially is rebadged fifth-generation (AE82) Toyota Corolla. will appreciate your suggestions.

do the entire deal
1) oil change
2) oil filter change
these are pretty cheap changes and i change them 4-6000kms.
as for porportion, you should not fill more than the manufactuer spec. many times, the readings should be under the hood, on the air box, on the oil lid.. worst case is google.. it was at least in my toyota/ honda/ mazda/ vw/ nissan i had.. but i reckon 4L or so is typical for that age of car...
the different grades of fuel reflect to climate temperatures in your area. the the oil comes in differant thickness
i typically use 10w30..
i would not mix oil since the correct way is just changing it.
your dipstick will not give you a measurement of how much oil you have, but will just give you a degree of High or low
