Hi,
Dumoulin is having a sale on the Canon Rebel XT it is not on their web site (www.dumoulin.com or www.audiotronic.ca) its in the "La Presse" newspaper.
It says save 190$ = 498.88$ 18-55mm lens is included.
Future Shop is selling the same camera for 699.99.
Sorry don't have a scanner to post.

I bought this camera a last year and have to say that it's the best camera I've ever had. It's my first SLR but the resolution of the pictures is to die for. There is no visible grain if you take the pictures in High Res mode.

I highly recommend this one.

Just buy the Compact Flash cards on ebay (it's way cheaper). And the Lithium-Ion battery is about 90$ at Futureshop but again, I bought 2 extra battery Lithium-Ion on ebay for about 20$ for both w/ shipping and everything. It's tottaly worth it.

:D

Would anyone familiar with price matching know if any store in calgary would likely price match this?

I'd *love* to get my hands on one of these, for that price... but unfortunately I'm on the other side of the country.

Yes, Dumolin is a Quebec only chain (with just one store in Ontario near the Quebec border). So for those outside Quebec, you can hardly PM it with other stores.

no no no.... stay away from ebay memory card and batteries. Both have a significant chance of being fakes, which in the memories case means lost pictures, and in the batteries case means lost camera. Not worth it if you ask me.

LaPresse electronic is an electronic copy of the regular newspaper LaPresse.
It's proprietary application. The only thing I can do is print page per page.
I can print PDF but someone is gonna have to host the file.
I sent a copy to 5-6 people so far.

You may want to download and print off the PDF flyer that was just recently hosted. Take it to your nearest FS or BB, and see if they are willing to pricematch it.

If not, you may want to trek down to Oshawa as they have a store there...but would suggest calling them before doing so.

I'm still weighing my options on this DSLR, although the price is super sweet.

Well, I still think it's worth it. I've been using batteries from ebay and card for a year now. The card is a Compact Flash Extreme (the real thing) so no worries there.

The lithium-Ions have been working for me. As long as you buy the same battery (NB-2LH), you should be fine. I also take caution when buying from e-bay and I only buy these types of electronics from Power Sellers.

But if you prefer paying an extra 50$ for a 2GB card and an extra 180$ for two batteries, go right ahead.

You should just spend a little extra and get the XTi...much improvement over the XT.

BTW...if anyone is looking for a better camera, I got a BNIB Canon 40D for sale...see my sig.

Canon Digital Rebel XT Body is $550 right now at FS (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10070943&catid=), but with the Saturday Night Web Sale (http://www.futureshop.ca/marketing/midnightsale07/?CMP=EMC-email_special_promo), it would just be $495. Yes, you won't have the kit lens, but it's not very good a lens anyway... though, one would argue that it can be easily sold for $50.

This looks like it'd be too hard to PM at FS or BB. If I could get this camera for this price, that'd be sweet. :)

If the stuff you got worked, then good for you, but not everybody might be that lucky, why spend >$1000 on the camera then cheap out on these two items and risk losing it all?

Unless you're doing some serious shooting... I don't see why you would want those extreme/300X/150X cards.
Regular 2GB CF 40X goes for about 20$, and it's plenty for anybody, specialy with a XT.

What lens would you recommend for the XT. I'm thinking of picking up the camera, but looking for a somewhat inexpensive lens to go with it.

The ultimate question... Welcome to the SLR world. Before you take this step, I suggest you read a bit about the whole lens world. After a while you will figure out fast that "fast, good & cheap, pick any two, you cannot have all three..." does apply a lot here. Good glass is expensive.

Anyway, the lens that comes with the kit is somewhat cheap in price and quality. Also keep in mind that lens in good condition will always keep a good resale value. So you can spend on lenses without loosing too much.

Also keep in mind before spending that the the most important tool is the person behind the camera, not the camera itself. A good photograph will always make good pictures even with poor equipment, but not the other way around.

Work for the kit lens for a while and figure out after what your needs are.

The Canon XT can definitely benefit from faster cards. From strictly a speed point of view, for Sandisk, there is no point going above Ultra II.

You have to readjust your thinking of what is an "inexpensive" lens. In the world of SLRs, an expensive lens in the range of $200-$500, moderately expensive is $500-1000. and expensive is >$1000. The best lens would be the Canon 17-85mm IS USM lens, which can be found for around $700. Or the Sigma 18-200mm OS lens, which is also around $700. Both are great walk-around lens. DON"T get the Canon 18-55mm lens that comes with most kits. It has no resale value because it is really a poor lens.

they were quite adamant in price matching a product that was described in French, and located in a difference province. The manager i was dealing with (read: manipulating) was actually a francophone, himself from MTL, so he was alright about translating the ad. in the end, we called headoffice...

if you notice tho, i didn't get the 10% of the difference... i figure getting this at way below BB cost even after taxes - and saving me the drive to MTL, was good enough.

THANK YOU TYPER100
