fellows
Sep 28th, 2007, 03:54 AM
Anitec's weekly specials are up.
Excellent Deal on
- $99 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB - SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
-125.95 Logitech G25 Racing Wheel (After $60.00) MIR (I know the MIR kinda sucks)
Also on a sidenote....
The Asus EEE is finally released. Unfortunately it is nowhere near $200 bucks but still may be a good deal.
Asus EEE (http://www.anitec.ca/promotion/asus_eeepc/)
Anitec seems to be the only one carrying it. I think NCIX may as well but I don't see it listed.

The cheapest shipping is $13.40.
I just bought one last week for $120, so only $7 better in the end.

Ugh, $290 for the base model Eee? No thanks. Once it actually drops down to the price everyone was expecting, I'll probably pick one up.
Seems like a cost-effective method of replacing paper and pen.

I wonder if the 'EEE' would make the perfect hardware for a car GPS. 7" screen seems like a good size, not too small and not too large.

How about a CarPC? All the components are there just begging to be disassembled and custom fit.

These are most likely the famous AAK firmware that has speed limitation. http://www.fluffles.net/articles/seagate-AAK-firmware.

They only charged GST & HST. Hope your are exempted like me.
DirectCanada.com charges GST (Good and Service Tax) to all customers in Canada, HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) to applicable provinces and territories, and PST (Provincial Sales Tax) to orders shipped within British Columbia.

PST laws are different... unlike other provinces (such as ON) BC's laws state that the PST has to be collected for them, even by retailers that don't have a presence in this province. Technically, if you buy something outside of the province and they don't charge you PST, you're supposed to pay it yourself.
I think this was put in place because they were losing tax revenue from people in eastern BC going to Alberta and buying stuff PST-free.

Thanks for link. I just ended up ordering from ncix with pm to dc. Pay a little more for shipping but in case something wrong with the drives i get free shipping through vip membership. One of the only thing i don't like about dc is you get screwed on shipping when you have to rma something back.

-125.95 Logitech G25 Racing Wheel (After $60.00) MIR (I know the MIR kinda sucks)
Warning:
The MIR is good until Sept 30 for this racing wheel. But check when your order was processed by Anitec. They don't seem to be the most efficient company I've dealt with.
I placed my order Sept 29 (Saturday morning) but anitec never processed my order... It was Monday morning (today - Oct. 1), and still no order placed. I called them to inquire and they said Logitech would not honour my invoice because it would be Oct 1 when it the order would go through. I promptly cancelled my order because of this.
I was not happy they would put a sale like this and not process the order immediately. I'm glad I cancelled it before they shipped it to me, otherwise I would be very upset.

The EEE is NOT $100 because the profits from these machines sold here are used to fund the $100 laptops given to impoverished nations.

Asus has copied the OLPC project????
OLPC were supposed to be charging under $200 per unit and for each unit you buy you choose a kid to donate the other one too (since the units cost $100).
In effect you buy 2 and donate one to 'impoverished nations' :) - soon maybe even the USA  :(

I thought Asus WAS the OLPC project... never mind then. I can't quite recall the article I read... I'll try to find it.
