Starts Friday at Best Buy. 24" monitors keep getting cheaper and cheaper. The last time this was on sale it was $500 about a month ago and back then it was a good deal. Now it's $70 cheaper at $429.99. It's a non TN panel too. It's a MVA panel. Must be a last ditch effort to clear these out by BB.

When the 24" Viewsonics were on sale a month ago at BB, that was it for that model and it disappeared from their website. I got it for $450 then and thought it was a super deal.

read the reviews online... they don't favor too well for this particular model from westinghouse. I almost bought one because of the price but after the reviews I changed my mind.

it's relatively cheap for a 24 incher, though.

I'd say if you're a gamer, check out the Samsung 245 (fast TN panel with many inputs), and if you're into graphics/photo editing/console gaming, check out LG's L246wp or L245 (excellent P-MVA panel with awesome colors and viewing angle).

I've had mine for about a month...great colour depth, I started using it wth VGA, them moved to DVI-HDMI input. Very sharp, no dead pixels. Only 2 things I don't like are no DVI input and crappy/unlabelled button placement. Looks great tho, and tons of inputs if you want to put the PS3 on it or anything else.

I would never recommend the Sammy 245 to anyone, the TN panel on it is a POS. And where's the recommendation for Dell?

But gosh, the decreasing prices makes me want to hit myself for buying the 2407-HC from Costco which I'm still waiting for after a week already -_- But it's got 92% gamut, which is what I'm going to look forward to ;)

24" prices are plummeting, but I think they're going down a ways farther yet - we'll see where these are on boxing day!

Good post OP, love seeing brand new lows on any computer parts :)

I bought this monitor the other day and overall, I'm quite pleased with it. My particular monitor looked as though it may have been returned by someone previously, and there were some hairline scratches on the bezel, but it's nothing an exchange can't fix.

The picture quality is gorgeous with no noticeable ghosting, although I'm having an issue with my Xbox 360 connected via a cheap 3rd party VGA cable in that I can see a double image of sorts shifted slightly to the right. Fast motion images via the VGA cable also exhibit a big of a image shift line of sorts. I bought a Monster VGA cable was bought off of eBay to see if the issue will still be present, but it doesn't occur when connected via Component, which happens to accept a 1080p signal apparently.

The blue screen when no video signal is present for the HDMI input has been documented, although few people have mentioned the somewhat loud buzzing sound that can be heard at this screen. It's pretty annoying, but one can just turn off the monitor.

Pros:
+1:1 scaling
+gorgeous picture quality (sharp text and vibrant colours)
+no visible ghosting
+supports every input that matters (save for DVI, but a adaptor or DVI to HDMI cable will resolve it)
+physically looks pretty nice
+the price compared to other less feature packed LCDs

Cons:
-Buzzing sound at no input blue screen for HDMI
-Monitor controls are a bit confusing, although you'll get used to it after numerous accidental closings and setting changes
-One year warranty
-No rotation or height adjustment

This monitor is on sale again at Best Buy. This time it is $399.99. Last time it was $429.99. For those who purchased it a couple of weeks ago you should be able to go back and get $30 back under price protection if you do it within 14 days of purchase.

Interesting, so comparing this vs the Dell it probably has similar picture quality, a few less inputs, non adjustable stand, but no ghosting, also costs $250 less.

If anyone has been following the Dell forums, the 24” has severe ghosting problems due to one of the technologies used in it. Dell isn’t planning on fixing it either and the 2407 wont have any more revisions.

So there isn’t really an ideal 24” monitor yet.

No revisions for 2407, but further revisions are coming for 2407-HC.

But damn, I'm kinda regretting the Dell I got off of Costco. I could immediately save $200+tax by returning this, but no height adjustment, no USB port and HDMI instead of DVI really ticks me off...

So far i'm really liking this monitor, but i noticed one problem (may just be with the unit): When i reduce the brightness (defaults at 100), you hear a buzzing sound.

I'm hoping it's just my unit and an exchange will solve the problem.

I think $400 buck is a really good deal for a 24", remember this is low end 24" not for graphics or hard core gaming, but occasional movie viewing and odd games, i think it is a good price, unless you need all the USB and DVI input. then you are out of luck.

But I am happy with my Dell from Costco. Even though it is 200 more!! Note: I don't play too much gaming.. and some occasional rec photo editing.

It doesn't detect the signal when I turn the monitor on. (Note: computer is NOT in sleep mode)
I have to unplug the cable and then plug it back in.

Got one yesterday and found it begin to come with TN PANEL!!
Fortunatly I found there 2 different specs on the boxes with identical model, so I picked the MVA one.

TN: 700:1 400 170/160
MVA: 1000:1 500 176/176

BTW, I've tried Cables to Go DVI-HDMI cable from TD. The image quality is soooo BAD. Not sure if it's compatibility issue or not. So I want to go for HDMI m/m cable. Any recommendation?

I picked up the last one at Mississauga Heartland location yesterday, and it has 700:1 170/160 specs on the box.

The quality is good, but not as good as the monitor it was supposed to replace (Viewsonic VX2025wm).

I also picked up a DVI-HDMI cable from TD, but the Ultra brand.
I'm wondering if that's why I have signal detection issues when powering on the monitor.

Either way, this monitor is going back and I will have to search elsewhere for the MVA model.

Check the user manual that came in the box.
If it says:

Contrast Ratio: 700:1
Brightness: 450
Response Time: 5ms
Viewing Angles: 170/160

Then you have a TN panel.

I've just placed an in-store pickup order for a 2nd monitor, so hopefully it is an MVA panel and then I can compare the two before I return the first one.

BTW: this is very sleazy of BestBuy + Westinghouse, considering they advertise it as an MVA panel on the product pages!
Viewsonic did a similar thing in the past, but at least they released their TN panels using different model numbers!

Edit: you can also check the viewing angle on the monitor itself. If whites and greys (e.g. RFD pages) change colour very quickly, then you most likely have a TN panel.

Edit2: mine also buzzes, however my PC is louder than the buzzing so I can only notice it if I hover above the back of the monitor

It seems I got the last MVA one at Heartland. Good luck man.

I also found a few silly designs on this monitor:
1. Signal detection only works with D-sub interface.
2. When using factory defined setting (Picture Mode etc), custom settings got lost!!
3. You will never know which button to use in OSD.
4. Weak stand.
5. Audio line-in was disabled when using HDMI interface.

There is a easy way:
Press the panel a little bit on white area with your finger.
If you see a round circle like "O", it's TN.
If the circle is like "*", it's MVA or PVA.
Not sure about IPS.

I love this monitor. I originally got it for my 360, but the lack of remote drove me up the wall, so I was going to return it and got the 32' 1080i Westinghouse that was on sale from Dell.

I was just about to return it when my 2nd monitor burnt out on my comp, so I decided to use it for a while as a replacement, and wow..I was blown away. Its such a pretty monitor, incredibly vibrant colors, sharp text, just awesome.

Anywho I was going to still return it in favor of the 21.6' 216BW Samsung that was on sale @ FS, but it was pure junk (terrible viewing angle, color banding..no fun) so I decided to keep the Westinghouse...Now I have to find a way to justify getting a second one..=D

If you always use your TN panel straight on, it is not too bad, however If you like to view your monitor from different positiosn (I like watching movies on it from my bed) and want better colours, MVA is the way to go, once you try both out side to side you will see the major difference

I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a DVI input. Why would a company make a monitor that doesn't have DVI. That is garbage. I know I could buy a HDMI-DVI connector, but didn't you state there are issues with that (blue screen, buzzing sound, etc)?

The price sure is amazing though (assuming you can actually order it).

The plus feature about this Monitor is the all the inputs it has (HDMI, VGA, RCA video/audio), it can be a TV if you hook up to a receiver.

The negative reviews are minor in my opinion like auto power off when using HDMI, buttons are too small and lost of detail in dark scenes in movies (batman returns), although it is very good contrast ratio and brightness.
Better contrast ratio than the Acer Monitors.

The pros out weigh the cons IMO.
I am just concern about the long term reliability since it is a like no-name-brand monitor.
Too bad only 1 yr warranty...!

Because the cost of a HDMI to DVI cable is equal to the price of a DVI to DVI cable at Monoprice, I couldn't care less what port they use.

I have a HDMI output on my receiver which would require the same cable if I had a DVI-only monitor.

NCIX has the same monitor for $589... and on a side note, this monitor shares the same panel as 2407WHP-HC, which means it's a gamble whether or not you get one with ghosting issues. I'm happy with my 2407WFP-HC though, as there's no apparent ghosting on mine.

On Sunday this location only had 1 tagged as open item and it was 700:1 ratio. various locations within GTA shows instock as well, as oppose to no stock yesterday.

What version is displayed in the OSD menu?

Bought the second last 1000:1 ones at Scarborough Town. There is also an open box 700:1.

just exchanged my 700:1 to the 1000:1.

What is weird is that the text looked a lot clearer on the 700:1 monitor??? The text on the new 1000:1 doesn't seem as clear (even compared to my Dell2005FPW).

I'm using vga now, but i was also using vga on the 700:1 too.

Edit: nm, just used the autoadjust feature and everything is fine now :)
Edit 2: Oh and the buzzing noise heard when reducing the brightness :) So i'm pretty satisfied now.

mint: do you still get the buzzing noise with the brightness lowered.

I have been thru 2 monitors, both 700:1 and they are 1.0. The 1000:1 i have now is 1.1.

The first 700:1 buzzed when brightness lowered, 2nd didn't but had 1 hot pixel.
The one i picked up today (1000:1), buzzes. I dunno whether to pick up new 1000:1 that DOESN'T buzz. This is so annoying.

the OSD is v. 1.1 and screen buzzes a little when brightness is < 100% but not really noticable unless I stick my head behind the monitor.

I exchanged my TN panel for a MVA one tonight, but the TN/700:1 version that I also had 1.1 for it's OSD version. It may have been a refurb panel though, as it had a "QC approved" sticker on it and appeared to have been opened at some point.

The buzzing sound appears to be the same volume for the MVA, but it makes sense if the only difference is the panel. The packaging was a bit different though, in that it has Chinese and Japanese text on it.

Edit: In the topic over at HardForums, some manager at Westinghouse reportedly stated that all 24" panels are actually MVA, but they decided to use the manual and box advertising 700:1 contrast ratios and 5ms response times. A test to see if the panel was TN was mentioned as well (look at the monitor from a sharp angle and see if the colours are inverted) and it would appear as though my supposedly TN monitor was actually a MVA. An MVA that didn't have a dead pixel like my replacement. >_<

No complaints here, I will definitely recommend the brand - I have a Westinghouse 42" 1080P which is a really good Panel, and now this 24" LCD.

I may replace my 3-yr old 20.1" NEC monitor... I've been waiting for an affordable 1080p monitor - the only downside is that this doesn't swivel...

I own the 42" 1080p Westy and it rocks.

hmm.. I have the 24" westinghouse connected in clone mode along side the 24" acer, until I decide which one to keep.
When outputting 800x600, the westinghouse displays the picture moved way to the top of the screen, to the point where I can only see the task bar. This does not happen in any other resolutions, and the acer works just fine at this resolution. Can any of you confirm this to be an issue, or is it just my monitor which is foobared?
I first noticed it when UT3 fired up, which has the default setting of 800x600, otherwise I would have never seen it, as I tend to run everything at full resolution, if at all possible :)

Just choose auto adjust from the menu and it'll fix itself.

Cool, I will try that tonight. I'm surprised it could be this messed up out of the box though.. usually if a monitor needs adjustments, they are small ones, nothing like this.

I've found many LCDs need a big adjustment at non native resolution the first time.

Any comparsion?

There is no difference because there is only 1 panel, but there are two different kinds of packaging/instructions.

Now something weird is going on with my monitor... when my windows power save "turns off" my monitor on HDMI mode, the screen goes blue...

I've got menu V 1.1 so there's no option to turn off the monitor after X minutes in my settings (from what I can find...)

Anyone have any idea how to solve this?

it been documented that this monitor does not turn itself off while on HMDI but I believe it does if connected to D-SUB

Just bought one today and is it very nice.
It is even better and sharper than my 20" Viewsonic VX2000 LCD.
It is very bright and excellent contrast.
No complaints and usually would find something... well the no hight adjustments on stand.
