Well,
Im happy to say that at least Im proud of something tonight and thats passing my G Road test, unlike others who classify saving some girl from getting fcuked from another dude.
Anyways, the problem I have here is that the guy who passed me gave me a warning for not accelarating and catching up with the traffic when I merged into the highway. I simply sped up and stayed at 70km/hour on the right hand lane and he told me I needed to accelerate to 100km/hour to follow traffic. Last time I checked the sign said 100km/hour MAXIMUM. According to him I needed to go at that speed.
Well, I take it as the maximum speed is 100km, and if Im going 75-80 on the right hand lane why would that be a problem? Isnt that WRONG of him to say that to me?

I was in Young Drivers and I believe it says it in the manual, but to safely merge from the on ramp to the 401, you MUST accelerate quickly and get to 100 km/hour before shifting over.
It's also against the law to drive too slowly, 10km/hour under the speed limit and you can get a ticket. My grandfather got one for going 48 in a 60 LOL.

depends on the flow of traffic....

If you were only going 75-80 on the highway with average traffic, he should have failed you.
You're a hazard if you attempt to merge into a travel lane at 75-80km/hr.

Agreed. He technically broke the law because Unnecessarily slow driving, or impeding traffic is a 2 demerit point ticket.
Glad you passed though!

I remember reading up on a law case about a guy driving too slow and getting a ticket for obstruction of traffic. He started a traffic jam for going way under the speed limit. When the sign says maximum, it just means you can't go over the maximum but you are expected to be at that specified limit. Think about how chaotic it would be if a random person were allowed to drive at a speed of their choice as long as it's below the maximum.

He should of failed you. Merging at 70km/h, let along DRIVING, is dangerous to YOU and other cars on the highway. If you are uncomfortable driving at speed higher than that, stay off the highway and stay on local.
As much as 100km/h is MAXIMUM speed, it doesn't mean you have 20-30% deviation ESPECIALLY since flow of traffic will be around 100km/h. As much as you THINK you're minding your own business, you're just holding up the flow of traffic.

I don't know how you passed, they look specifically for people merging between 96-100 km/h. (assuming normal traffic flow)
Lucky.

Thanks for the input guys,
I have been driving for 7 years and im 23 now. Reason I was doing my G was because I had my G2 and I let it expire. Truth of it is, I use the highway twice a day and I go way over the 100km/hour range, but since it was a special day I wanted to be extra careful, and I figured its better to go slower than to go faster for safety reasons.
Another reason why he probably didnt fail me was because when I merged I had enough time to speed up to 100km/hour and since theyr was no cars beside me or behind me, I took my sweet ass time and he took it as a warning, although I was going to speed up. Regardless its a lesson learned but what made me chuckle was the fact that everything was over he said "this is just a warning, for next time". Heh I dont think theyr will be a next time pal :)

In Ontario you can drive as slow as you want...there is no minimum speed limit...
But the catch is that you can not impede other drivers driving like a snail so that is the infraction, not the slow speed.
However, in the belle provence of Quebec there are min limits...
But yeah use the merge lane to get up to 100 at least then merge, driving like a snail just causes accidents so keep up with the speed of traffic...

i really think the speed limit should say MINIMUM 100km/h instead of MAXIMUM.

...now, thats another problem.
Not if he's doing flow.
I'd rather have someone doing 120 in the far left lane than someone doing 100-105 in the middle or left. *$&#ing pisses me off when idiots jump into the middle or left lane and cruise at 100ish km/h, and they're being passed on both sides. Are people really born this ignorant? I wonder what they're like as a person.
