View Full Version : BC/AB only $105/mo 600KB/sec ADSL, landline, unlimited LD CAN/US + 1000asia/euro

call 1-888-811-2323 to order. this plan is not published on telus.com
$105/mo + tax. NO long distance admin fee with this plan
you get
1. Internet
6.0 speed downloads(600KB/second) on ADSL. no download limit. no traffic shaping. bittorrent goes at full speed.
1.0 speed uploads(110KB/second) on ADSL.
telus (in BC anyway) doesn't use PPPOE nonsense. real DHCP IP's without needing the overhead of PPPOE.
2. REAL LANDLINE, no internet phones, no 'digital' cable phones
- with 6 calling features of your choice(call display, call waiting, whatever)
- unlimited calling to Canada and the USA
- 1000 minutes per month to Asia and Europe(most big countries).
of course if you want something cheaper, www.italkbb.com is cheaper at $25/mo for worldwide unlimited calling, but thats an internet phone, and so will sound like crap.

Is this plan for home or business?
What are the limits/bandwidth? 500gb/month or something?
st7860
Sep 27th, 2007, 03:52 PM
its a residential plan. there is no limit in real practice. there is an 'official' limit of 60g per month. you can go to www.dslreports.com and look in the telus forum.
under either of these conditions with telus adsl you have no limit
a) telus TV together with any ADSL plan
or
b) no telus tv but with the 6.0 extreme plan
the reason is because either A and B force you to be on an ADSL2 port, which currently do not have tracking ability.

is this a retention offer is it available to new customers??
Haven't been with telus for a year now and would love this amazing deal
Do i have to ask for anything In specific
Thx
st7860
Sep 27th, 2007, 04:10 PM
no. its not a retention offer. you just call 1-888-811-2323 and ask for everything to be bundled together as described above. you don't need to argue with or negotiate with or threaten to cancel with anyone. just ask for that $105/mo plan that includes extreme internet, 6 features, and unlimited canada/US calling. they have a small $85/mo one too, but then you don't get as many long distance minutes, and the internet is slower.

bummer, just called telus (i am already a customer) but 6.0 is not available in my area so signed up for 3.0 with everything else same as OP mentioned for a little cheaper.
by the way, to get the rate OP mentioned you have to agree on one year contract or else they charge 5 bucks more.
thanks OP.

so if I sign up for this plan as a new customer, I would get the new signup bonus as well?

$40/month = 10 Mbps Internet

$95/month = Faster Internet, and more phone features.

shaw limits the speed of your downloads unless you're referring to normal browsing and FTP activities, and there is a strict traffic limit as well.
and furthermore, their phone service is an IP phone, its not a landline.
if you want an IP phone there are plenty of competitors that offer it far cheaper than shaw's rate.

Yeah, I would say Telus deal is better than Shaw :)

Nope... my torrents are not limited, I get d/l speeds of over 1 MB/sec and upload at full speed (110 KB/sec). And they don't really enforce the limit if you have the extreme speed - I d/l around 150 GB a month...
As well, the phone will work even if your internet is not.

really? so you're trying to say that you can download 150gb on a 100g $45/mo shaw package? when did they implement this new non-enforcement policy?
same thing with the torrents, when did they implement the no blocking policy? if you can provide proof i'd even sign up with shaw.

If I'm currently on a 3 yr plan (it's been at least 2 years now) with 1 year left, can I still go to this plan without penalty? Also, does the asia minutes include China and Hong Kong? Wish there was info somewhere that I could read. Thanks.

I never have problems d/l torrents at full speed with Shaw. I have never received a warning for exceeding the limit (although I rarely do).
And Shaw phone is not VOIP, it has the same quality/reliability as telus, just uses coax copper vs phoneline.
Total on shaw for 10 Mbps internet and phone is only $97. Plus you get legendary Shaw service vs. telus marginal service. To be honest, I have no idea why anyone would choose Telus over Shaw.

Sure, if by legendary you mean someone breathing down your neck and suspending your connection every few months for exceeding the bw limit. Plus, shaw speed really depends on the area. It totally blows in my neighbourhood. Telus is much faster and more reliable here. I remember when shaw got so bad in my area, I couldn't even browse a webpage properly, let alone download stuff.

I'm on the shaw bandwagon... I download from usenet at speeds of over 1300kb/s i download well over 150gb a month, and i have never had an issue with shaw... word is that they only contact you if you're one of the top 5 UPLOADERS in the province.. they don't really care about downloads, it's uploads they don't like. (at least that's what a CSR told me, could be BS, could not)
And i use a cellphone on my family plan on fido for my landline, so the phone thing really is not even a consideration for me.

Hmmm, I have the $40/mo. Shaw internet deal at my home and they havn't been limiting me in the slightest. I upload on bittorrent constantly at 90kb/s(Limited by myself; real limit is 125kb/s) whenever I'm not playing games, and my download speed isn't limited at all. Also, I havn't received any warnings about exceeding the limit.
It seems like it is location based.

And Shaw phone is not VOIP,
.
Shaw phone is VOIP, although on a local call your call stays on a MANAGED network, its still VOIP and subject to traffic conditions of other shaw phones on that line.

Sorry, I wouldn't touch Telus with a two foot pole! Its just a stupid company to deal with, they just jip you with cheap prices then they make it so its impossible to cancel then when you cancel, after 6 months there is a credit agency who calls you and says you haven't paid your Telus bill! That is what happened to me.
WTF! I wish Telus could just go bankrupt...

unless you want to go with ROGERS or PRIMUS there's no other choice for a real land line phone in Western Canada.
And, ROGERS/PRIMUS don't have internet/landline bundles in western canada. Primus sort of does, but not all in one package.

Shaw phone is VOIP, although on a local call your call stays on a MANAGED network, its still VOIP and subject to traffic conditions of other shaw phones on that line. Its not VOIP in the same sense as Vonage or Primus since it does not require an internet connection. And the quality is equal to telus.

TELUS definitely will be better than Shaw during prolonged electric outages. My understanding is Shaw will install a UPS at your house. When the UPS is exhausted during an outage, you will no longer have Shaw Digital. On a TELUS line, the power is provided by TELUS' generators.

Shaw doesn't install a UPS. just a dinky little battery contained within the digital phone adaptor. but if the cable amps on the telephone poles lose power, cable service and phone service will not work.

VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. It's true that Shaw's service doesn't travel over the public internet, but it's VOIP no matter how you slice it. It is different from most other VOIP services, but it's still VOIP.
