Seeing that the 5 cent deal at Esso is gone, I would like to find out what brand of gas is the best value for the price. The nominees are:
Esso
Shell
Petro Canada
Sunoco
Canadian Tire (Esso fuel)
Husky

I find that Petro gives better mileage for my car.
Esso and Sunoco seems to give better power, but Sunoco has significantly less mileage.
However, I've read several years ago that Esso fuel has the most sulfur content. Not sure if they fixed that yet but I try not to go there for that reason.
Shell has that problem with certain engine again years ago... pretty sure they fixed the problem, but I'm comfortable with Petro and see no reason to change.

Thanks for the info. What car do you drive (make, model, engine)? I drive a 2002 Camry LE V6 so its good to know what fuel works best. I use Esso Premium with my car (owners manual recommends 91 octane or higher).

I've owned 2 cars in my short 23 years.... a supercharged 3.8L Buick Riviera and a 5.3L V8 Chevy Impala SS. I run ONLY Sunoco Gold 94 octane. It's the best you can get at the regular gas stations, runs cleaner and hotter than the rest.

Gotta disagree on that Sunoco is the best gas. Sunoco has ~10% ethanol content in all of their gas.
Personally, I prefer Shell (gold) gas - the sticker on the pump says that their '91' gas does not contain any ethanol.

What's wrong with ethanol in your car?

What's wrong with ethanol in your car?
From my understanding (and I am not a chemical engineer), adding ethanol decreases the power of index of the fuel, which can decrease the fuel economy one would get in an engine. The decrease will be more noted on cars with lower compression engines. On high compression engines (where premium is required or strongly recommended), the fuel economy may be the same.
From my own experience, I did note that my car (2002 Camry LE V6) would yield better fuel economy on premium fuels that have less ethanol in them, then those who have more.
The government and the oil companies like to put their spin and market these fuels as they release less emissions in the atmosphere. The truth is that for a engine with low compression (most engines that run regular are classified as low compression), the owners will need more fuel using ethanol fuel then those without high concentrations of ethanol.
From the Government and Oil perspective, they love it: You buy more gas, the Government gets more oil revenue and the oil companies make more $$.

For the same cost, I'd prefer one among the 3 top tier gas retailers in Canada:
- Petro-Can
- Shell
- Sunoco (Pioneer)

God you guys are ridiculous with your snake oil observations...
There is no benefit to using premium or mid grade in a car that uses 87 octane.
Enjoy pissing more money away than required to oil companies. Morons.
However, there are differences between the 87 octane provided by the different gas stations. YMMV, literally. I use Superstore gas, it's the cheapest.

I feel foolish starting this thread since this other one exists:
