Wondering if anyone has ordered new tires from a local shop just across the border from the US-Niagara area? I keep reading about all the potential savings and how it might be worth that 1 hr drive down from Toronto.

I also want to go Buffola to buy new winter tires. I really want to know if we can bring the new tires back to canada and where to buy tires in Buffola.

Where did you buy them? I was looking for set of 205/70/15 winter tires and found that TireRack is offering the best prices, but it's still about $500 with rims plus shipping ($75 per set) and installation ($15 per tire).

Try Sam's Club (Niagara Falls, NY) or Costco...

My current tires are quite new. I want to buy winter tires from US and bring back to canada. Is it easy to bring those tires through the border? Do I need to pay to custom?

I just purchased a set of Bridgestone WS-60's on Subaru OE Steelies for my 08 Impreza from Tirerack and had them shipped to the UPS depot close to the Maine/NB border (they hold parcels for me all the time). I believe the normal duty rate for tires manufactured outside North America is 6.1 - 6.4% (I may be wrong here) but as there was a nice Made in USA sticker on the outside of the each package I only had to pay HST at customs.

I think UPS delivery from the US to Canada would be expensive with their brokerage fees.

The first time I go back to the US with them on the car I'll stop to get an export permit so I won't have any cross border issues. N/C for this btw.

your best bet is to drive down on crap tires and dispose of them there and drive up on the new tires.

but regardless of how you transport the tires back to canada, you're supposed to declare them and pay taxes/duty.

i think with the weak US dollar and the lower cost of tires in the states, even if you factor in the cost of taxes and duty, you're still a winner compared to the ridiculous prices some CDN tire shops charge.

tires23.com is the only shop that has competitive pricing by far but even then, their prices are more than tirerack's, including shipping and install.

goto www.tirerack.com

Purchase your tires and get them shipped to 24HR tire it's in their list of installers in Buffalo near the outlet malls. The owner of the shop his name is Mike, tell him Clint sent you. He's a super nice guy!

Make sure you go over with crap tires and put your new ones on he charges around 10-15US per tire, and you drive right across. I have a set of ZR rated tires for my TL type S in the summer and Dunlop Winters all from tire rack for around 1200CAN for both sets... that's insane! One set here alone was almost 1000

Hope this helps, PM me for any questions!

Also did the same with my parents MDX!

Darn, the yokohama AVID TRZs that I want won't be much of savings if I order from tirerack... $103 each + $15 install... only save $68 vs. buying from Steelcase tires in Toronto... gotta weigh the cost/time/driving benefits here...

Bwadd.... is this the 24 hr tire you're referring to? I found it on the tirerack site:

24 HOUR TIRE & AUTO SERVICE
415 LYNNBROOK DRIVE
YOUNGSTOWN, NY 14174-0000
(716) 745-1219

http://www.tirerack.com/installer/InstallerDetail.jsp?index=2&installermiles=10&zipCode=14301&x=0&y=0&place=0

The link above shows a full list of all tire servies (valve stems, disposal fee, etc)

Try Sam's Club (Niagara Falls, NY) or Costco...

If you can get them from a Costco (which I did on one trip down to Ohio) then you have the added benefit of the full Costco warranty including rotation, flat repair, etc.

The closest Costco, however, through Niagara Falls, is about 2 hours from the border ia PA.

I haven't done the TireRack drop ship to Niagara, but I have done it in SSM, MI (border city with SSM, ON)...

Turned out pretty well, just ordered wheels from one place, tyres from TireRack and had them mounted and installed at a shop "across the river".

That was some years ago, and the dollar was $1.60 for a US then but it still turned out over $100 cheaper as I recall.

I am planning to drop ship to Mike/24-hour in Niagara for my upcoming set of tyres though ;) I've heard nothing but good things about his business and his prices are fair as well.
