View Full Version : Ban the trophy shelves

I asked for this once before and everyone who responded, said they too were sick of these postings.
I'd like to see the mods weigh in on this.
Searching the BST forums is rendered absolutely useless when people end their FS posting(s)
with every item they've ever sold since the day they arrived here at RFD.
Who out there is searching for things that are no longer available for sale?
Just what is the intended benefit to the members?
Here's a few threads, see what I mean

Here's a reply I received already:
the reason why i keep the sold items is for feedback purposes.... for all your BST feedback you need to put a link to the thread where the item was sold/bought for reference.
so no i will not change my thread just so you can save 3 seconds by not searching through it.

I think you're being overly sensitive about it. As an informed consumer I'd rather have MORE information than less information!!!
Nobody is forcing you to sit there and read it. By providing me with previous items that have been sold, I know that the person is active and it makes me more comfortable.

I agree with Chigu.....FURTHERMORE...
the rules state to REUSE THREADS. For the whole point of the BST Feedback aspect to work, you NEED to have a trophy shelf as you've cynically captioned it, otherwise there'd be no way to track the item pertaining to that particular feedback.
Is it possible the admins/mods have not considered this yet? Mind you it's probably a reason why people still aren't reusing their threads, and the mods aren't making a bid deal about it yet.
Some people have been reusing their FS/LF/FT threads from the get go...others haven't.
If you don't like it....as Chigu said....MOVE ON!!!

Baloney.
Heatware accomplishes the same thing.
Searching for an item and finding that someone has already sold is more information? Nonsense.

let's try this again.
Your main beef is in that the listing of previous items, overwhelms the 'returns' when you run a search for a particular item correct?
Just me thinking out loud here...don't be offended or insulted please:
What happens, if when you are sifting through the returned threads from a search you just ran, you look at the TITLE alone, and if the item you were looking for isn't listed, you skip the thread? Mind you...with 11,000 posts I'm assuming you know how to search 'in the title only'...so if a thread doesn't have the product you're looking for in the TITLE, but in the 'trophy shelf location'...shouldn't it be NOT LISTED in the returns??

I'm with the OP. Trophies are useless, and it does make searching more of a pain.

I see where hes coming from. A lot of the posts list several items for sale, all of which may not be listed in the title. Now limiting searches to the titles, will sift out the relevant threads.
The thing with "Trophy shelves", is that they are listed in active threads, hence show up at the top of the search lists. It can pose a nuisance if theres a lot of them.

really?
Even if you're searching in the title exclusively?

In many cases, the person is selling multiple items and there isn't space in the title to list everything. Looking at the titles helps, but doesn't solve the problem.

I have to agree with BT......in order for the RFD feedback to work, the reference has to remain. If conscientious sellers word their Titles correctly, then the searches will yield just current items.
<<<shakes head wondering why people are becoming so umm...lazy!

agreed
ive tried to search for things like pc3200 ram only to come up with a bunch of threads where i gotta look throiugh lists of each one only to find it at the very bottom under sold items
its annoying

Well...other than people who are selling a ridiculous amount of items...the proposal should work.

Absolutely agree, example noted above notwithstanding...hmmm any solution to that particular predicament?
It would seem that there isn't any, and you'd have to search manually (not by title)...how many on RFD actually sell THAT MANY ITEMS that they don't fit in the title???

PLEASE remove posts that have these sorts of "past sales lists." Nobody cares what items someone has sold in the past. It makes searching COMPLETELY useless. There is another massive thread on this forum suggesting this as well. Bragging rights can easily be moved over to Heatware.
I bumped the other thread. If you're lazy: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=424450

I beg to differ...I only buy and sell here, so this is where I am happier with my feedback (esp considering Admin took the time to create it).
I have never viewed the extended posts that include sold items to be a pita, but a necessity to keep the BST threads from the same posters to a minimum and to be able to reference in RFD Feedback.

Exactly.
I used to be ALL over HEAT...but ever since the inception of our internal FS., I haven't increased my HEAT except by 1...whereas prior it used to increase quite frequently week-in., week-out.

Well...other than people who are selling a ridiculous amount of items...the proposal should work.
I don't think it's limited to people with a ridiculous number of items. Once you get up to about a half dozen items, then the detail has to go. There's room for more if you just put, say, "Ram/Athon/Antec Case...." but then there's no description in the title. So if you're looking for a type of ram, or Athlon, then you'd have to check the thread anyways, then find out that your search term is in the sold items.
But having said that, I don't think that there's a way around it if the mods want the threads reused and the old items left in for feedback purposes, so the existing system will have to do.

Why not move sold items to an older thread (without bumping) and link your BST feedback there?

Excellant idea. Like an Expired deals thread.
Then we can search the BST forum and not hit any of these trophies.
Ryan, is this possible?
And yes BT, I know how to search with just titles, but it doesn't help when someone is selling a PC, and is parting out.

I would accept this compromise.
But then you're saying that we'd EACH have to have a thread created in this /general expired deals/ subforum.
I'm assuming then, by restricting the search to the respective forum-it will bypass ALL the information referenced in the OTHER expired deal one?
WHOA...sounds like a pita...but I can diggit. Whatever we all agree is coolio.

This is an OLD issue:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=424450&highlight=sold+items
It has been pointed out MANY MANY MANY times before. Admins don't seem to care. It would seem that the "suggestions" part of this sub-section is meaningless to the admins. Don't waste your breath, they won't do anything about it.

Just because you don't agree with the mods' decision on how to deal with this (or any other suggestions) is no reason to imply they're are useless and don't care what some people want. You don't have to agree with someone's judgment to respect it. Insults like that are in no way helpful. People who can't get their way don't get a free pass to whine and insult. You can't get your way all of the time and it's juvenile to complain when you don't. Get over it and move on.

I don't mind that people disagree. In fact, I welcome all perspectives. I am not implying that the admins are useless, what I'm upset about is the lack of response. Before you put any more words into my mouth (which is very disrespectful and insulting btw), let me ask you this: what's the difference between suggesting something and whining about something?
...are you not whining about me whining? :|
