No...touch up paint will not work. You'll see a line and the touchup paint will never match the existing paint. The entire panel needs to be repainted.

I know how you feel. Someone pulling out of a parking spot hit the bumper of my 2 week old Honda Fit and took off without leaving a note. He left some scratches in the bumper. They had to remove the entire bumper and repaint it. It was about $700 total. They did an excellent job and you can't tell where the car was hit.

sorry to hear your baby been violated. I know how it feels.
You can try touch up paint, but use a very small and fine brush. Let it dry. You can try to go to a detailing shop. Ask them if anything can be done before applying touch up.

I've seen very small touch up applied, and wet sanding, and extensive waxing and polishing done. It can be done, requires a lot of work.

Typically people don't key cars(I don't think a TL is going to impress anyone), unless you park badly, rub someone the wrong way in the parking lot(steal someones parking), or have a freakishly nice car like a ferrari and your some young punk.

If you do get keyed on a regular basis, someone hates you and know what car you drive and in this case, get a insurance package with a cheap deductible.

I parked badly one time(I knew I would get keyed, my GF just wanted to see the movie and not be late) and had a similar scratch. And yes you will need to remove the door and paint the whole thing, about a 700 dollars bill.

Thats what I'd recommend. Touch up paint, then wetsand and buff. If in the end you dont like it, go ahead and paint the whole panel. If you do like it, well, then you potentially save $600+

I would try and polish this out first.
Get some rubbing compound and mix it with some liquid wax that is similar in color. Use it on a rag and use your finger tips to rub it out. It may tale some time and effort but it should work. You will not fill up the gouge right away abut several applications (drying time in between) and eventually it may blend right in.
After that, just polish the whole door (and car) and buff.

So would I. Picture isn't the greatest but I would imagine you could buff a lot of that out. Perhaps not the entire thing, but you would make it look a lot better and a lot less noticeable.

Ouch, that sucks. Touch up paint probably won't look the greatest. But it would suck to pay to have it repainted then someone do the same thing again. I can't stand to see stuff like this.

You don't think there are young teenage punks out there who think key scratching a new car would be funny?

I feel for you man...I had my car key scratched from the headlight all the way back to the tail light. No idea why anybody would do crap like that.

Definitely try buffing it out first though...you might be able to hide it well enough.

Maybe it's due to the recent advertisements ;)

you need to reevaluate the priorities in your life as well as your life values if a faint scratch on your depreciating "asset" troubles you this much.

it would be a bit more acceptable if you were bitching about the cost to repair the "hairline scratch", or people's lack of respect for others' property but you really need to lighten up.

i had a pretty deep scratch and nu scratch did a pretty good job of hiding it

you can still see it, but only at certain angles

I doubt it was only 3 little asians who did it. To tip a friggin car takes alot of people(like 10 beefy guys). How big is an r1 because I never heard of a r1. Are you talking about an Acura RL. If it is an RL that would be friggin tough. The only reason why world strongest men can do it is because the car is hollowed out and it's usually a small car. An Acura RL those is 4000 pounds(unless they contrapted something like a hook and used a car(but even here it might just drag it. Where in this case it wasn't spur of the moment and they hated your boss.)

If their were only three guys, they would have to be all the size of Ronnie Coleman and I don't see any Asians the size of Ronnie Coleman. And even then they might not be able to do it. Basically a car center of gravity is so low that you would have to be able to power lift a 1000 pounds to get anything done.

i think an r1 is a motorcycle

You got a brand new car and wanna touch it up?

There's no quick fix for that...you gotta repaint that door. It'll cost you about $500-750 to get that door repainted.

Lucky it's brand new...it'll be easy to color match your door.

My mistake.

I just don't seeing a boss driving a motorcycle home from work. Its just seems so strange.

But obviously not as strange as three hulking asians, deciding the work out wasn't enough and decided to flip a car. I'm also not so familiar with motorcycles, and with all the crap happening to Acura's lately. I thought r1=rl.

That's a deep scratch. No scratch remover in the world can buff that out. So don't waste your $ on it.

You need touch up paint, and if you are skillful, you could try to use a product called Langka. It will make the scratch look smaller, but not disappear.

Goodluck.

Try using a toothpick to apply the touch up instead of that super thick brush that comes with it. It will be easier to control the coverage.

it would be a bit more acceptable if you were bitching about the cost to repair the "hairline scratch", or people's lack of respect for others' property but you really need to lighten up.

OP was just asking about advice on how to proceed having has 1 week old TL keyed. I don't see why his life values should called into question because of such a post.
