I am selling my 1996 Dodge Caravan SE V6 3.3L * and someone offered me $1000 to take it as is. The van’s body has some rust at the bottom of both sliding doors and the muffler is a little noisy. Is $1000 a reasonable price? Should I take this offer? Thanks.

They are priced at $2500 on autotrader.
I've no idea of what they sell for though.

How desperate are you to get rid of it?

Personally, that's the sort of vehicle that you take whatever someone offers you for it. There are so many used vans on the market (many off-lease), and new ones are being dumped by Chrysler for <$20K, that resale is awful.

unless you're in need of 1g, I would keep the van for road trips or when i have a lot of people to drive around. I suggest driving the van down to the ground because 1000 dollars is not worth selling. You never know when you will need a van unless you're using that 1g to buy another van. good luck

That assumes insurance rates are low, though...

Insurance? Repairs? Licensing? It's not the money you're making from the sale, it's the money you're saving by being rid of it. That's why it's advisable to sell such an unwanted or little-used vehicle like this one to whomever makes an offer on it. It's worth zero on trade-in, and a couple hundred at a wrecking yard. Hold out for a larger offer, and you could be holding on to it (and paying for it) for a lot longer.
If you need a van on occasion, you can always rent one at far less cost than carrying an old one in your driveway.

Correct. I think your last sentence should have read "you can always rent one at far less cost than carrying for an old one in your driveway"
Take a grand now or pay a grand for brakes or other maintenance in a few months to only be able to sell it for a grand. It is 13 years old and getting older (and rustier).

I agree. However if you really don't want/need the van or really want to get rid of it? Take the money and RUN! :D
