In order, lowest to highest of where you'll learn good stuff:
forums.digitalpoint.com
www.webmasterworld.com
webmasterworld.com supporters forum (costs a bit)
attending pubcon in Vegas in November.

Oh yeah. Also have a read, start to finish, of the blog located at www.jimboykin.com. Some good stuff there. And buy seobook.com.

That should get you started.

is SEO book from seobook.com any good. It seems like a scam or waste of money, but I'm not talking from experience. Please prove me wrong.

Not anywhere near a scam. I know Aaron as an acquaintance, and that's the last thing he is.

What it is, is an excellent prep book for a beginner. It's the best thing to help you hit the ground running that I know of.

For intermediate/advanced folks it's still worth getting since it can be used just as a good list of resources.
