hey guys,

Just got an estimate from canon on my sd800 which apparently has water damage..

The estimate for it is 306.66

I also went to Winkle and they said itwas 250 or something around there (as an estimate).

What should I do?
Buy a new one? Should I just buy another SD800 back? Better one? I realy don't want to spend too much money.

My vote is to get a new one and sell the broken one on eBay. It would probably cost you about the same but you get a brand new camera with a fresh warranty on it.

People would actually buy it off ebay?

how much would I be able to sell it for?

That;s the beauty of ebay. You let the world decide what your item is worth.

A new SD800IS is worth $400+. Something to think about.

You don't want to send stuff to Canon for repair unless you want them to lose it then ignore you. Toss it, buy a Nikon or a Sony.

Your bad experience does not mean everybody will have the same bad experience. A Sony point&shoot? How about no? Nikon's compacts aren't that great either.

It just means that you need to spread your one bad experience with everyone on the internet. ;) I don't blame him though. If they lost an expensive lens on me and gave me the run around, I'd be pretty ticked too!

I just had my G6 which wouldn't turn on any more repaired at Canon Calgary. It was about 7 months out of warranty. Canon quoted about $225 as their flat rate to repair it. I bought it with a credit card that extended the one year warranty so it was covered.

I think it was about 50-60% of the cost of buying a replacement one off eBay since they don't sell them anymore. I think even without the warranty, I probably would have paid to have it repaired. It's a pretty good camera. If the cost were 70-80% of a replacement, it might not be worth it.

how much does sony or nikon pay you to troll these forums with your canon propaganda?
